Weekend Reflections

A day watching trains offers a good reflection when there is a mud puddle near by.

It's Tuesday

We got 10" of snow over the weekend and then today was beautiful. Go figure. More snow coming tonight.
Anyway I had no new pictures to show you, so I'll take you back to last June when we went on a short train watching trip to Gallitzin, Penna. This is the wonderful B&B we stayed in. On the deck you can watch trains 24/7 if you want. It's fantastic!
From the deck you can observe the trains coming and going from these famous tunnels through the Allegheny mountains.. The workers on the left are cementing up the old tunnel to keep kids out since it is no longer used.
Across the tracks is a train museum with a beautiful flower garden.
Gorgeous lilies

These are called "pushers" and help long trains up through the mountains.
We saw LOTS of trains too. This is strictly Norfolk Southern territory.
The area has some of the most wonderful sky shots ever! Have a great rest of the week.

Taking a small trip

We're on a short vacation in Gallitzin, Penna and are here to watch trains 24/7. We're staying at a B&B right along the Norfolk Southern mainline. If you like trains, this is the place for you!
This shot was taken in Juanita, Penna where there is lots of action, and a huge repair shop. It used to be the home for the Pennsylvania Railroad, once the largest railroad in the world! Today we took a ride to the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, and IF you don't wish to hoof it up to the top of the mountain via the stairs to watch the trains wind their way around the famous curve, you can ride aboard the funicular. It goes up every half hour, and will get you up to the top and you will not even be out of breath. LOL

As one car comes down, another goes up, and they pass by in the middle.

Once at the top looking East down into the valley of Altoona, Pennsylvania. If the leaves weren't on the trees, you could see the trains actually driving from one side of this mountain range to the other side. The water you can see is just one of 2 lakes of water supply for the city of Altoona.

For some reason I'm having trouble posting tonight. I don't know if it's the wireless here at the B&B or what, but everything is loading so slow, so I'm not going to post any more. I have lots more pictures, and will put them on for Sunday.
