Weekend Reflections

With all the rain we've had lately, one doesn't have to look far to find a reflection as this one is at the end of our driveway.
An old friend once told us the swamps have to be full before winter can set in. I think they are getting FULL enough already!

Skywatch Friday

It's Skywatch Friday again, and these angry skies were with us all day! We did get some brief periods of sun, but it didn't last long.
Happy Skywatch everyone. Have a wonderful day, and click on http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky shots.

Fungus- Among Us

Our son brought us a trailer load of firewood, and this afternoon we unloaded it all, and I saw some interesting fungus on some of the logs. They don't need any explanation, so enjoy.
Please forgive me for not visiting my favorite blogs. With the baseball season winding down and the Yankees going to the playoffs, we're watching every game with baited breath! LOL

World Bird Wednesday

I guess we'd better get a good look at this golden color on the male Goldfinch, for it is changing about as fast as the weather these days.
It's World Bird Wednesday, and if you click on http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com you'll see lots more birds.

Ruby Tuesday

As I walked around the pasture this afternoon, I saw one of my Light Brahma pullets peaking out from the weeds. I have a young flock, mixed with some older hens and it shouldn't be long now before the youngsters begin to give us some eggs.

Macro Monday

Let's hope not, but this might be the last Rose of summer. This little Rose bush has given me several beautiful fragrant flowers.
Happy Macro Monday, and if you will click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see lots more close ups.

More Signs That Fall is Here

Don't forget to click to enlarge each picture.
This Amish couple loads some groceries in the parking lot at Wal-Mart.
Later we saw this Amish man driving his buggy towing a log splitter. It's that time again to be putting up firewood.
I picked out this beautiful Mum at the Amish greenhouse I posted a week ago. It will be in full bloom in a few days. They have so many gorgeous flowers for sale. You can't buy just one! LOL
We passed this field of Sunflowers, and did you know the flower heads will follow the sun. This was on a cloudy day and they were all hanging their heads. Of course they are nearly ready for harvest too.
The leaves are beginning to change color, and they don't look crisp and green any more..
Some wild Asters line the road by our house. There are hundreds of these this fall.
Here is the purple variety. Lots of these too.

Skywatch Friday

Just some different cloud formations floated by this week up over the corn fields.
Happy Skywatch friday and do click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see lots more sky shots.

Thursday

On our walk last Sunday evening I saw this cool sundog in the Western sky around about 6:30..
This is my barn and some corn stalks we're drying for Halloween.
Here is my Silkie rooster with a couple of his girls. He is crowing to let everybody know he is the boss.

What a beautiful day. Fall can't be far away when you see scenes like this.
Tonight we had lots of thunder, lightning, and rain too.

World Bird Wednesday

I'm sorry I don't have a much better image for this week, but I just haven't seen anything interesting. I did see these turkeys this morning on the way to the feed mill. This hen and quite a few poults crossed the road in front of us. Of course a car was coming up fast from behind, and this is the only picture I got.

Ruby Tuesday

It's Tuesday again -already- Where does the time go?
Here is Frosty and doing what she does best. Ya gotta love it. She sleeps all day and keeps guard on the mice in the garage all night.
Happy Ruby Tuesday, and do click on over to http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com to see more RED.

Macro Monday

When you live near the lakes, you always find some Mallards to photograph. This little girl sat still just long enough for me to get a picture.
Happy Macro Monday and do click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see what Lisa has done with this meme.

Saturday

We have 3 apple trees, and the Northern Spy is going to give us lots of apples for pies this winter.
The little grape tomatoes have produced so many goodies this summer despite all the hot and dry weather. They are sooo good.
Even the ever bearing red raspberries and still going strong although the birds have stolen plenty.
The Milkweed Tiger caterpillars are out in full force now. Once again, I have seen very few butterflies this season. There were more early in the summer, but as the hot temperatures took it's toll on all the flowers, the butterflies disappeared.
I did see this Monarch just the other day, but maybe it was migrating through our area.
This is our llama trail, and you can see how overgrown it is. It  needs some help. So much rain now that things are growing really out of control.
Not far from home lives all these Belgian horses. They were kind enough to pose for me on a drive past their pasture.
We've had rain on and off all week, but nothing too bad. Even some sun to help dry everything out. We were predicted a frost a few days ago, and we picked all the remaining tomatoes just in case. The frost didn't happen, but I did can up half of the tomatoes today, and got 10 quarts.
My new chickens are going fine, and I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.

Weekend Reflections

I took this shot last night of the pink light I have in a lamp on our desk representing Breast Awareness month. It was reflecting in a picture we have .

Skywatch Friday

All day today these clouds were building, and sometimes getting quite dark, and it was very windy. There were warnings about rip currents and possible water spouts on Lake Erie, but I don't believe any spouts formed. I have been waiting to photograph some for a long while, but you have to be there at the right time.
This evening as the sun sets in the west, the clouds show lots of pink color.
Happy Skywatch, and click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky pictures. Another surprise, there are warnings of a FROST maybe tonight! Oh great. All my plants and veggies are inside the garage..

Thursday

This is the time of the year for Mums, and we have a gorgeous Amish greenhouse not too far from home. This is the scene as you drive off the main highway down the beautiful road toward their really cool log home and 5 greenhouses.
Just this summer they added this gazebo with lots of cool flowers, and a bench for resting.
Their house is log, and amazing for Amish.
Of course I got some Mums, and I'll post some pictures when they are all in bloom.
We stopped on Chautauqua Lake for lunch, and these cute ducks are big time beggars, and I saw one youngster. I thought they should all be grown by now. This one must be from a late hatch.

We were on the road a good share of the day, picking up more new chickens to add to my flock. I'm getting more egg orders than I can supply, so it's time to get more girls, and I got some real beauties.
Have a good rest of the week.
