World Bird Wednesday

Here it is Wednesday again and time for more birds. I haven't seen anything of interest lately, so here are a few from earlier this year.
This Cooper's hawk makes sure he comes by my feeders quite frequently during the winter. His favorite meal are the Mourning doves.
I also have a pair of these cute Titmice. They have a nest someplace nearby, but I haven't found it yet.

These two pictures were actually taken last winter.
I also have a pair of House wrens living in my Bluebird house. They made a nest earlier in an old gourd in my front yard, and I'm thinking this is the 2nd brood.
I'm wondering if this moth is a meal for the babies? It seems awfully big for those small mouths..

World Bird Wednesday

The babies are here! I've spent a good amount of time photographing these Baltimore oriole juveniles, and I found out they aren't as easy as I thought! My goodness are they fast and so much arguing! Here is a young male in the tree waiting his turn at the grape jelly.
A newcomer at the restaurant too is this male House Finch. I did see him eat some jelly.

Another juvenile male oriole in the trees.
Here is a female begging food from Dad.
I love this one, a young male on his first time to the feeder no doubt. He looks a bit suspicious don't you think, as the wind blows his top feathers..
Happy WBW, and be sure to click on over to http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com to see lots more birds.

World Bird Wednesday

Well, it's Wednesday again, and time for the birds! It's also time for baby birds, or so they think..LOL This baby boy Hairy woodpecker still wants Mom to feed him.
So cute isn't he?
He doesn't give Mom a minutes rest either. Squawking at her if she doesn't move fast enough..
This is the first quarter moon tonight, and I enhanced it a bit to show more detail.
Have a happy Wednesday, and click on http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com to see lots more birds.

World Bird Wednesday

I still have plenty of Baltimore orioles coming daily for grape jelly. I'm waiting for the babies to show up too.
Now I have two young cardinals that show up every morning and evening. Even though they are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, they still beg from the parents..
Looking around for someone who cares...
Then looking somewhat dejected when nobody comes to the rescue..
Searching once again....
Finally MOM shows up. " Over here MOM, I'm starving"

World Bird Wednesday

I know everyone is probaply tired of seeing Canada geese, but I just can't resist taking pictues whenever I see some. We went to Lake Erie this week, and I happen on 3 groups of geese with their babies. This first batch were the youngest.
Then I see Mom and Dad with some a bit older some in the water and some on the rocks. The parents decided they would climb the rocks and head for a grassy area for a snack. Dad went first calling to all the kids to follow.
Followed by Mom and some of the goslings. This is a big family.
Mom stood back and waited, but some of the kids aren't sure they want to jump.
Finally one decided to take off, and the rest wanted to follow, but were visually scared.
OOPS, this one misjudged just how far it was between rocks, but I didn't have to go rescue it. Got out by himself! Whew. I think I actually see two different age groups here too..
Finally they all are together again. Somehow in the background there seems to be a couple more but I'm not sure they are with this group..
Ahh, good tasting grass. Now everyone was safe and all the kids made it across the rocks. I've seen so many goslings this year. What will happen to all of them ?? Riding around on the southern side of the lake these birds are everywhere.
Happy World Bird Wednesday. Do click on http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com to see what Springman has done with this interesting meme.

World Bird Wednesday

Yesterday we took all of our plastic and glass to the recycling center, and on the way home driving through a wooded area I spied this Turkey vulture resting in this pine tree. He was interested in something on the ground, and stayed in the tree long enough for me to get a few pictures, but then an Amish buggy came along and he flew away.
You do have to admit, they have an ugly face, but are such graceful fliers.
Back at home I've had a flock of Blue-jays that has been eating me out of all the suet I put out. They will go through a block in several hours. I have one of the feeders less than 2 ft. from my computer window, and lets me get more close-ups.
That's it for the birds this week. We've had several days of cold, wet, windy weather, and I haven't seen any birds of interest.
Have a great rest of the week, and please click on over to http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com to see what awesome shots Springman has and all the other gorgeous birds blogs.

World Bird Wednesday

I don't often get a chance to photograph a Gray Catbird, so I was a bit excited when this one showed up next to this building one day when we stopped for lunch. It stayed for a while so I could get pictures. I have them around our property, but they never are cooperative and hide mostly in the trees..

World Bird Wednesday

On Monday we visited this cool little park in Conneaut, Ohio. They have a walking trail with lots and lots of shrubs, beautiful flowers, and trees all planted in memory of a family member. There are two ponds too complete with plenty of Canada geese. I only saw the three goslings and this bunch came over to us as soon as we got there looking for a handout. As soon as they discovered we had nothing they swam away.

World Bird Wednesday

What an opportunity when I came across this juvenile Red-tailed hawk, and he posed for me. Of course there was a Blue-jay harassing him too, so he wasn't noticing me.
On my feeders today a 1st year male Rose-breasted grosbeak. I have several this year. Something new for me as I usually I only have one pair, and the adult males are so beautiful..
Now, just because it's on the bird feeder, and eating bird seed does not necessarily make it a bird.
