Weekend Reflections

This pond is a favorite of mine during the summer to find lots of turtles sunning themselves near the shore. I can take pictures from the van too so they aren't frightened.
Happy weekend everyone. It's cold here, raining, and we even had hail this evening when a cold front moved through.

Skywatch Friday

With a storm looming off to the west, the sun seems to be having trouble keeping in sight. I was able to see this while on my walk with our dog Tauqua one evening.
Happy Skywatch to everyone, and click on http://skyley.blogspot.com if you wish to see lots more sky shots.

Thursday

Lots of Goldfinches, and the males are really getting their summer colors.
This Chickadee and it's mate are looking at this "hotel" and I hope they stay. It's right outside my dining room window, and I could get some cool pictures.
We happened to see these Amish driving their horses dragging big logs from the woods.. I took the picture from the back so they wouldn't see me .
More cold temps coming, and I even heard that 4 letter word-snow- in the next couple days. :~(

World Bird Wednesday

I happened to see this male Brown-headed Cowbird sitting near my feeders yesterday afternoon. I asked him " Do you guys know we're supposed to get a hard freeze tonight? maybe you all should bring out the long johns""
Then he gives me this look and says" Say what? It's Spring lady, we're supposed to have warm weather."
Then I get this disgusted glance as I tell him again how cold it's going to get.
So he looks away, and says" I just don't believe you." "OK, I say, but remember where you heard it first"
Then he looks me right in the eyes and says " All right, I'll pass on the word to all my friends, but I still say you are wrong!"
I wasn't wrong, it dropped to 15 deg this morning..I hope all the Cowbirds were comfy last night..

Tuesday

Down the road from our house near a neighboring farm is a pair of Killdeer. They are forever running alongside the road, and I'm sure they have a nest someplace close, but I have yet to find it.
One of my blooming African Violets.
Of course the Dandelions are popping up.
A shot of the "Llama" trail. It's going to need some light yard work. Lots of downed branches from the high winds we've had all winter. We save them for starting fires in the wood stove. Speaking about the wood stove, we had to fire it up last night. All day yesterday a cold North wind blew, and the outside temp never got above 33º, and last night it dropped to 15º. I'm sure I've lost all the lilacs, but the apple trees might be OK. The buds are just beginning to show.
Not too many pictures of the House sparrow, but I think if you look closely this little gal does have some interesting feather colors. Not many birds right now on the feeders. The ever present Grackles, Blue jays, and lots of Goldfinches.
Have a great day.

It's Monday

Look what we got in the mail early this morning! The post office called and said they had peeps for us. Actually they are going to Steve's house when they get bigger, but for now they will be camping out in a brooder in our basement. 16 little adorable balls of fluff. The girls will be so excited when they get home from school today.

Mrs. Cardinal calling for her mate..
Here are a couple shots of my greenhouse. It has lots of beautiful Orchids in bloom right now. Last year we had lots of flats of pumpkin seeds growing, but they will do just as well when planted in the ground.
A weather alert says we will get a freeze tonight! Not looking forward to it, because many of our trees and flowers are in bud.
Have a great day all.

Now It's Raining!

We went on a barn search earlier this week. This first one is not far from our home, but  I really was interested in the clouds.
Liked the curved roof on this one..
I just had to capture the cute little pony in the doorway of this barn.
I have this bird house hanging in my front yard, and I've already seen a Chickadee checking it out. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We've had several days with gorgeous weather, but today it rained most all day.

Weekend Reflections

I couldn't find any reflection to photograph that I liked for this week so I thought I would post this one again. It was taken last summer in Findley Lake not far from here and is one of my favorite.
Happy Weekend everyone, and do click on http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com to see lots more reflections.

Skywatch Friday

Last Friday evening we went out for dinner, and saw this awesome sunset on the way home. I took so many pictures, but this was the best, and it isn't retouched.
Happy Skywatch Friday, and do click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky shots.

Thursday

Yet another gorgeous day, and I've noticed that the Coltsfoot flowers are all in blossom. Ever since I was very young, I've looked for these flowers very early in Spring.
Some of the Pussy willows are looking a bit spent.
We happened upon a fairly good sized wet lands, and off in the distance I spotted some birds in this old dead snag.
When I zoomed in I see they are only Pigeons, but you never know.
Have a wonderful rest of the week, and do get out there and enjoy this awesome weather.

World Bird Wednesday

Took a ride on this beautiful day and found a small flock of Ring-necked ducks on a nearby lake. They are a new lifer for me. Whoo Hoo.

Tuesday

Last Sunday afternoon when we went to check on the eagle nest, granddaughter Becca took this picture of the small stream nearby the eagle nest. Last Spring this area was all flooded at least 3 ' up these trees.
At home the Daffodils are beginning to bloom. This particular one is in the woods.
On my trail walk yesterday I did spot this Chickadee making a nest in this old dead tree. He let me take a few pictures, and didn't seem very afraid.
Back in our driveway, Azreal seemed really interested in something by our van. I went out to check what it might be, but found nothing.
Another gorgeous day here. There are some storms off to the north, and hopefully will miss us, because. I have laundry to hang out.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Monday

We  went for a ride this afternoon, and passed by this yard loaded with these beautiful flowers. I have no idea what they are, but what a sight.

As I mentioned so many times, I just have to take pictures of Canada geese when ever I see them.
With granddaughter Becca along, we went watching trains, and were not dissappointed.
We also checked on this Bald eagle nest, and found an adult sitting hopefully on eggs. Last year a fierce storm showed up one night and blew the baby chicks right out of the nest. I hope they have better luck this year, but I am worried about this early spring.
We found the most beautiful wild Violet flowers today. I've never seen any this dark color.
Happy Monday everyone.

Scenes you almost never see in March

It's been a long time since I've seen my Crocus bloom this early..
Findley Lake about 5 miles from home has no ice left, and even the fishermen are out enjoying the beautiful weather.
We saw a few folks out in their kayaks too.
No ice or even snow left on French Creek either, and the Robins are enjoying a Spring bath.

All this beautiful weather certainly makes one wonder if this is just a tease, or are we in for a real winter blast yet to come???
Have a great rest of the weekend.
