Ruby Tuesday

It's Ruby Tuesday, and I want to introduce you all to Pollyanne. She is the new gal that will be advertising that we have eggs for sale.  We don't have quite enough eggs yet, ( some of the younger girls haven't begun laying) but she is quite patient and will be getting lots of rest till we're ready for her. I plan to give her a scarf to wear for each season too. The design was a community affair. Gary thought up the name, our son Steve painted the white, Cindy, a great neighborhood friend did all the lettering, and I painted the face. Of course I also added Made in USA on the bottom!

Sunday

This is another shot up the Allegheny river above Warren, Pa where I spent my summers when I was young. What a beautiful area.
This plant growing in the crotch of this big Willow tree caught my eye.
We did have some blue sky this week earlier, and there are a few pretty leaves left.
Mama Cardinal stopped by for a snack. She looks ready for winter.
I have this Toad Lily growing in a dark corner of the house where it doesn't get much sun. I almost forgot about it, so I snipped off a stem, and brought it inside to enjoy..
Check out what we had Friday afternoon! Not what we wanted. Fortunately it is all gone by Saturday evening.

Weekend Reflections

Definitely NOT beautiful, but with all the rain we've had along with the gloomy days, this is what I found one day while we were watching trains. In the center of this wheel hub of a huge tractor trailer, you can see some freight cars from the passing train.
Have a wonderful week-end, and click on http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com to see lots more reflections.

Skywatch Friday

Toward the beginning of this week, early one morning there was this strange cloud formation in the Northern sky. The sun was shining from the East on the trees, and this was followed about a half hour later by heavy rains, lighting and thunder.
Happy Skywatch. Click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky shots.

Cold, Wet, Raining again!

In the above picture I was able to photograph two Common Mergansers in this local pond.
Traveling to Warren, Pa ( my home town), yesterday I got a picture ( below)looking out at the Allegheny River right where I grew up spending the summers in my parent's cottage. I used to travel up and down this river daily in my canoe. What memories, but that's another post.
Below is some of the pretty foliage in this area. A nice park where we ate a picnic lunch.
Back at home these two shots show some of the 100's of sea gulls that have come ashore in the sky above our home and landing in the fields across the road. Sometime this happens when there is about to be a change in the weather.
The weather folks are speaking about that white stuff in the next couple of days. :~(

World Bird Wednesday

I was sort of lucky when on our way to Wally World we passed this corn field and right beside the road strutted this gorgeous male Ring-necked Pheasant. I'm sure he wasn't wild because he wasn't a bit afraid. Can you believe the awesome color.

Ruby Tuesday

For Ruby Tuesday I'll introduce you to all 8 of my Bantam chickens. They are mostly a hobby of mine, but their eggs are quite tasty too. They all with the exception of Chicklet my rooster weigh less than 2 pounds.
Happy Ruby Tuesday, and click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com to see what Mary/the teach has done with this cool meme.

Macro Monday

Yesterday when I was taking pictures of the Canada geese, I noticed this Maple tree covered in Lichen.
Upon a closer look you can see some really interesting life forms.

Sunday

We're due a frost tonight, and I managed to get this shot of the last for sure rose.
I always carry my camera with me when I mow grass, and I was lucky enough to capture this poor Fritillary butterfly. It really is tattered.
In a neighboring town these 100's of Canada geese spend most of the day resting and later will descend on the local corn fields.
I've never seen so many geese in one spot before. I also noticed some Snow geese, and a lone Merganser, but didn't get very good shots. I'll go back tomorrow, and try again if they are there.
As I mentioned a frost is predicted for tonight. The Butternut squash is picked along with all the tomatoes, and all the flowers put into the garage.
Hope everyone is having a good week-end.

Skywatch Friday

After several days of rain, we were rewarded with these dancing clouds one evening. Today it was dark, cold, and misting and very windy nearly all day. Gone are the beautiful sunny days of late summer. Now we look forward to our first snowfall, and then for a brief period of Indian Summer when the beautiful summer will return for a couple days.
Happy Skywatch, and click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see lots more sky shots.

Scenes From Around Home

The hard rain we've had didn't ruin all the leaves yet, but there is more rain and wind on the way for the next two days.
The Pin Oak always has some beautiful leaves.
Our rescue dog Tauqua, and Frosty like to cuddle.
This cold wet Goldfinch sits on a shepherds hook during the heavy rain.

We took a ride yesterday out to the Peninsula on Lake Erie, and this is what you see as you enter Presque isle.
Back at home not far away, these cows cool off during a warm day.
More rain tomorrow, and cooler days to come.

World Bird Wednesday

I just can never pass up photographing Mallard ducks, and these drakes were enjoying themselves in the afternoon sun.
Bottoms up!

Ruby Tuesday

This was a picture of our leaves last week, but now we have had several days of hard rain, and they are fading fast!
The last time we took a ride to the harbor on Lake Erie hopefully to photograph migrating birds, we were surprised by this Sheriff's boat pulling ashore. We hung around for a few minutes and never did find out why they were there.
It's Ruby Tuesday and if you will click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com you'll see what Mary has done with this meme.

Macro Monday

On a recent short ride we came upon a herd of really cool beef cattle. So many different colors, but this one really caught my eye.
What a cute face, and she stood there while I got some  pictures.

Another cold and rainy day here, BUT sun tomorrow! :~)

Another Rainy Day!

It rained all day yesterday, and we got a total of 2.5" and the wind was so strong. We have a large Norway maple tree in our front yard, and it sheds all the time. With high winds we have more branches than ever down and will use them in the wood stove. This Rose is one of the last and has a wonderful scent.
We have several Sumac trees on our property, and it seems they all have different colored leaves. They remind me of clothes hanging on the line..
I don't know what this leaf is from, but I love the colors of green, purple, and pink.
I have posted these each Fall, but for those of you who don't know what this is, it is the Wild Cucumber. It really looks nothing like a cucumber, but is about the size of a small Kiwi fruit. The spines are a bit prickly too, and it grows on a trailing vine up and over bushes, and right up the side of trees..
When it dries you can see inside. and will find 4 equal compartments each with a seed about the size of watermelon seeds. Kind of a cool plant. One time I saved a bunch of the dried pods and decorated along with some other dried seed pods, a small artificial tree for Fall.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
