Ruby Tuesday

This was a picture of our leaves last week, but now we have had several days of hard rain, and they are fading fast!
The last time we took a ride to the harbor on Lake Erie hopefully to photograph migrating birds, we were surprised by this Sheriff's boat pulling ashore. We hung around for a few minutes and never did find out why they were there.
It's Ruby Tuesday and if you will click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com you'll see what Mary has done with this meme.

Another Rainy Day!

It rained all day yesterday, and we got a total of 2.5" and the wind was so strong. We have a large Norway maple tree in our front yard, and it sheds all the time. With high winds we have more branches than ever down and will use them in the wood stove. This Rose is one of the last and has a wonderful scent.
We have several Sumac trees on our property, and it seems they all have different colored leaves. They remind me of clothes hanging on the line..
I don't know what this leaf is from, but I love the colors of green, purple, and pink.
I have posted these each Fall, but for those of you who don't know what this is, it is the Wild Cucumber. It really looks nothing like a cucumber, but is about the size of a small Kiwi fruit. The spines are a bit prickly too, and it grows on a trailing vine up and over bushes, and right up the side of trees..
When it dries you can see inside. and will find 4 equal compartments each with a seed about the size of watermelon seeds. Kind of a cool plant. One time I saved a bunch of the dried pods and decorated along with some other dried seed pods, a small artificial tree for Fall.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Another Rainy Day!

It's a good thing we took a ride in the past couple of days to see the Fall leaves, because today it began raining, and winds are picking up, so before long all the beauty will be gone for this year.
These are some of the pumpkins our granddaughters grew from seed this Spring. They have given some away, and will sell some.
Last Sunday afternoon we passed this Amish house where they were holding church. This is only a few of the many buggies we saw, but it's difficult to get good shots when your driving.
Some that were by the road.
A closer look at one of the fancier ones. Some even have mechanical brakes.
Azrael on the fence near the barn.
An up-date on the rescue chickens- They are doing very well, and seem to be getting along with all the rest of the flock. They have learned already to scratch in the dirt, and sunbathe, and are giving us beautiful eggs every day..

Ruby Tuesday

We took a ride today to see the Fall leaves and they are spectacular this year. One more nice day with the temps in the upper 70's then back to reality, and cooler days and nights.

Busy week-end

A really busy day yesterday, so I didn't get to take many pictures. We had our Thanksgiving so my sister could be with us. She is a nurse and had to work last Thursday.
Well, as you can see, with over 2" of rain in this past week , the beaver dam has washed out again, but they are busy gnawing trees for the rebuild. The creek is up at least 2 feet.

I found these pretty leaves in my perennial garden

Oh yes, we got 2.5 " of snow last night. And so it begins. Warmer temps for the beginning of the week though..

YES, IT'S STILL RAINING :~(

Here it is mid week, and we haven't had any sun in about 6 days. There is promise for some tomorrow, and we'll gladly welcome any at all, but time will tell.
During a trip recently to the lake, the winds whipping around and made for some rough waves.
Even with dreary days there remains some color in the leaves. I just hope it holds out till this rain moves out.
Lots of spider webs around.

I got new chickens yesterday. I've had more requests for fresh eggs, and needed more hens in my flock. The white ones are the new chickens, and are called Light Brahmas. They lay brown eggs, and came with a beautiful rooster. I think I'll call him Cogburn.

It's been a busy week so far. I'm so sorry again that I haven't been commenting lately, and now it's time to get the wood stove ready for winter. It needed re- bricking and our son was putting them all in place when he noticed at least 2 cracks in the cast iron around the door. Now it will have to have the bricks taken out, be taken to the shop, welded, brought back, re-bricked again and all wired up. Trying to get it up our cellar stairs will be a feat. The stove will probably weigh around 400 pounds. Anybody in the area on Saturday feel free to stop in and give us a hand....
Just kidding.

Ruby Tuesday

Here it is Ruby Tuesday again. Where does the time go?
The Sumac seed pods are beautiful this summer after getting frozen last year. They are so fuzzy. Some of the leaves from the Sumac trees are turning red too. You all know what that means...
Fall is getting ever closer. :(

Some Fall Observations

We went for a ride today, and then I took a walk around our property to see these Fall colors.
Mushrooms in a cemetery by the roadside. Concord grapes are nearly ready to harvest. Yum!
Sedum in my flower bed.

This spider got really close when the wind blew it toward me.

Even though this shot is fuzzy because of the wind you can see it is spinning a web.

More Sedum.

Milkweed pod.

Wild Asters.
You can see the paths the insects make as they chew beneath the tree bark.
More wild Asters.

Collage of Sumac leaves.

This buck deer was running right down them middle of the road. He hopped over the ditch and began eating grass. He didn't seem very afraid of us.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

This decoration is in my front bay window. I took a walk on our trails this afternoon, and there is this one tree that has this fuzzy white vine growing all over it, and I have no idea what it is, but I think it's pretty.
I put peanuts out on my feeders today, and it did bring the Blue jays. This guy was high up in the tree, but still keeping an eye on me.

We drove back to that dirt road where we saw the Bittersweet a couple days ago. There were actually some pretty leaves to see even though the area got around 7" of snow that day. PS, I got myself some Bittersweet too, and found 2 more vines with plenty of berries. I'll remember this for next year. I used them in my arrangement in the bay window around the base of the big pumpkin.

Indian summer is here. It will be much warmer today, and we will be enjoying it. Maybe out for a walk on the Nature Preserve one more time before the BIG snows hit. Have a wonderful and safe Halloween.

Good Morning. Another frosty one is upon us. Skies are clear and it should be nice. Tomorrow will be a different story! The weather folks are talking a colder day and the possibility of that "S" word. Oh my, not yet!
These are more shots I did on Saturday.
Here are 2 Amish driving a wagon. An Amish barn in the distance. I could see some sort of activity toward the end of the barn.
I zoomed in and it looks like they are putting on siding.
Beaver pond with a lone orange tree.
Another shot of the beaver pond. We didn't spot any wildlife here.
Looking down a dirt road. There is some color left, but the leaves are falling fast.
