Sunday

I don't have much to add for today. It was a cloudy day when we went for a drive to Lake Erie, and Presque Isle. Some fog too limited picture taking, but I saw 1000's of Coots. I don't ever remember seeing so many together. They were everyplace. I even saw a man in a boat fishing out on the bay. Something rare for February.
This is one of my barn cats Azrael, and she loves rolling on the ground for attention. A fierce hunter, she keeps the mice and Chipmunk population under control. My other barn cat Maggie, is very old, and spends most of the day sleeping in the hay loft, but never misses dinner. You can see her picture on my side bar.
Not that I needed any more Orchids, but for my birthday I just had to have one! I don't have this particular color, and it's called an Ice Orchid. To water it, just add 3 ice cubes to the pot once a week. What could be simpler?
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week-end.

Sunday

While driving through a neighboring town last week, at a stop light I noticed this kitty sitting in the window of this apartment. I'm wondering if it wants outside.
The local ski resort Peek-n-Peak, is excited for all this snow. They still make some of their own.
It makes for some cool pictures on the slopes.
Also on the tree branches at the top of the ride.
At the bottom of the hill, this stream is nearly frozen. Guess what? The temps near mid week might reach 50 deg. Can you believe it?
Have a super rest of the week.

Another Rainy Day!

It's a good thing we took a ride in the past couple of days to see the Fall leaves, because today it began raining, and winds are picking up, so before long all the beauty will be gone for this year.
These are some of the pumpkins our granddaughters grew from seed this Spring. They have given some away, and will sell some.
Last Sunday afternoon we passed this Amish house where they were holding church. This is only a few of the many buggies we saw, but it's difficult to get good shots when your driving.
Some that were by the road.
A closer look at one of the fancier ones. Some even have mechanical brakes.
Azrael on the fence near the barn.
An up-date on the rescue chickens- They are doing very well, and seem to be getting along with all the rest of the flock. They have learned already to scratch in the dirt, and sunbathe, and are giving us beautiful eggs every day..

Ruby Tuesday

It's Tuesday again -already- Where does the time go?
Here is Frosty and doing what she does best. Ya gotta love it. She sleeps all day and keeps guard on the mice in the garage all night.

Winter just won't give up!

Here it is one day from April and as I post this blog it is snowing! Yes, the ground is covered, and the weather folks say we might get a couple inches by morning. At any rate it was a beautiful day, and I got some pictures of this Common Merganser pair. A little farther on the Allegheny river near Warren ,Pa we found the Mute Swan pair. I posted pictures of these two last Spring with their cygnets, and they are again sitting on eggs, but on this day they were both in the water, and I had treats for them

Near home an Amish farmer spreads manure on the fields of his farm.
It's maple syrup time here, and lots of the sugar Maple trees have the buckets hanging on them.
Near that corn crib where I always see the deer, another small herd was there for a snack.
Along "our" creek the Beavers have been busy even though the water is still high. You can see they haven't taken any of the branches yet.
My oldest cat Maggie, will be 24 years old this summer. She is still in fairly good health, and loves sitting next to the house soaking up some sun.

Macro Monday- Kitty Paws

Frosty can sleep in some really weird positions, and this is no exception. If I slept like this I wouldn't be able to walk the next morning. LOL
Happy Macro Monday. Click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see lots more close-ups. She has such soft feet.

Here and There

While on a ride to Lake Erie the other day we stopped at this marina and watched the antics of Bonaparte's gulls. They are fast flying and will repeatedly dive head first down into the water for fish. There were 100's of them all circling above..

Riding past the vast fields if grapes you can see lots of large mounds of grape skins. Some vineyards mix the skins with leaves, grass clippings, and waste fish and left to "cook". Next spring as the grape vines begin to bud, they will spread this mix on their grape fields to use as fertilizer. When they first dump the grape skins on the ground, the air all around the area smells delicious of grape juice..
Back in our area, an Amish farmer goes out one morning to spread fertilizer on his fields.

Then there is Frosty wanting to go out to play with Jasper....NOT on your life girlie!
A female Downy woodpecker visits my peanut butter feeder.

Today was very, very windy, raining most all day, and gloomy!
Guess what--- The beaver dam is washed out again...1" of rain over night..
We should be used to this kind of weather in November, but I guess you never do.
Have a super rest of the week.

Macro Monday

Even though the barn cats have their own water dish, Jasper prefers to drink from the goats bucket.
Happy Macro Monday to everyone. Thanks to Lisa for hosting this meme. Click on over to http://lisaschaos.com/ to see more macro shots.

Cats on Tuesday

One of Frosty's favorite spots is in front of this stove. If our rescue dog Tauqua is already there, Frosty just finds a good place to lay her head and go to sleep.

CAT FIGHT!

These are 2 of my barn cats, Azrael and Jasper. Every evening when I go over there to do chores, the two of them go at it. Jasper was a drop off last Fall and Azrael being the "Boss Lady" just never made up to him. He picks on her, and she really lets him know who's "Boss"!

This is how they start off. Circling and waiting...

Then getting closer, Jasper is on guard...

Azrael , on the right is just waiting for the right moment.

At this point I'm not sure who is who! They both look so much alike. Enlarge the picture and check out the claws. They are serious!

In the end Azrael throws Jasper head over heels into the snow bank.

My Cats on Tuesday

I have 4 cats and here is a picture of them all decked out for Christmas. The 3 brown and black tiger cats are in the barn, and the white one is a house kitten.
Maggie is my first cat, and is 17 years old. She doesn't hunt anymore, but loves to be carried around.
Azrael is 3 years old, and is a fierce hunter. She keeps the mice population in tow. She will only do what she wants when she wants to do it.
Jasper was a drop off, and is about a year old. He is a very aggressive eater, and I have to feed him separately from the other 2. He already has caught a mouse, so he is earning his keep.
Frosty is 5 mos. old, and the best friend of Tauqua our rescue dog.
More about them in upcoming posts. Frosty says" Yawn, I'd stretch a mile if it weren't for walking back".

Ruby Tuesday

It's Ruby Tuesday. Here are my 4 cats. They are all barn cats except Frosty.
I actually made a Christmas card of this collage to send to a friend who gave me Maggie 17 years ago. She is still going strong, and doesn't hunt any more, but loves to be carried around. You have all no doubt met Azrael. She is a fierce mouser on 4 paws! She does NOTHING unless she wants to!
Jasper was given to me last Fall as a drop off by another friend. He is finally fitting in ? ?
Frosty is a baby and she is the best friend of our rescue dog Tauqua.

Weekend Reflections #15

For Weekend Reflections this week we have the first meeting of Frosty our new house kitten and Azrael the outside barn cat. As you can see by Frosty's tail and the raised hair on her back, she isn't all that happy about it either!
Join in Weekend Reflections and click on over to James' site HERE and you can see the meme he hosts. It's really cool!
