Weekend Reflections

On Findley Lake which is near us, the frozen lake is now covered with water after a couple days of warmer temperatures. It makes for a good reflection.

Skywatch Friday

Having such gloomy days for a while now, and not being able to photograph any good skies, I looked back in my files to find this early morning sunrise through the fog.
Happy Skywatch Friday to all, and a very Happy New Year .

Wednesday down by the Lake

It began Wednesday with more of the same. Clouds and gloomy weather. We decided to check out the Peninsula on Lake Erie. We did find lots of ice fisher folks. The house boats are frozen in place too with only one ice fisherman enjoying the day.

No picnics today either. Way too cold and windy.
There are ice dunes forming at the waters edge. On the right you can see the breakers that keep the sand from washing away from the beach.

One of the smaller sand dunes. They are formed by the waves washing up on the beach and freezing. Some of them are hollow and if you were to walk on them you could fall through into the water.

The snow on the sand makes for interesting patterns.

On the way home I found these two young deer resting after a yummy meal of corn from this corn crib. The farmer had put up a snow fence to keep them out, but as you can see they have knocked it down.
Have a wonderful rest of the week. We are expecting some warmer weather and hopefully it will melt some of this snow.

World Bird Wednesday

For the first time in several days we went for a ride, and checked out the bay in Barcelona, New York on Lake Erie. There were several flocks of ducks all mingling around in the open water. Here we see lots of Mallards and Black ducks along with a Ringed Seagull riding atop a chunk of ice. On the way home I spoted some wild Turkeys foraging around under the Sumac trees.

They have made quite a comeback in our aea, and can be seen at most anytime of the day.

Ruby Tuesday

Doesn't everyone just love the gorgeous color of a RED Poinsettia for the Christmas holidays. This one was given to me by our son, daughter-in-law and 2 granddaughters. It sure does brighten up a gloomy day.

Macro Monday

This tiny Orchid ( flower) blooming now in my greenhouse is about 1/4" high. I just noticed as I posted these pictures that there is a petal configuration that looks like an angel on top of the flower. These flowers smell like baby powder too.
Happy Macro Monday and click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see more close up shots.

Sunday

Boy, oh boy am I late! It has been a busy week-end, and I haven't taken very many blogging pictures.
This cute little Carolina Wren has been visiting the past few days. He always chooses to show his backside though and is such a busy body.

A few deer that made it through hunting season.
This Orchid is blooming right now in my little greenhouse. There is no scent though :~(

We all went to my sister's house for Christmas yesterday and here is one of her cats, Sadie posing for a moment.

The weather here is still gloomy and only a trace of snow the past few days. Temps in the low 20's . The snow and ice storm that is traveling up the East coast of the USA has missed us. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS

I actually posted this last Christmas, but since I haven't had much time to look for any reflections, I'll show it again. It reflects the big Norway maple tree in our front yard.
Merry Christmas to all my friends in Blog land. Have a wonderful holiday.

Skywatch Friday

Since we've had all this gloomy weather lately, I looked back and found this sunset from last Spring.
Happy Skywatch to everyone, and if you'll click on http://skyley.blogspot.com/ you can see lots more gorgeous skies.

No Sun Today

This is what we saw all day today. Fog and gloom. No sun at all, but then you remember from my earlier post this week we don't get more than 5 days of the bright light during the month of December. Of course we DID gain one minute of daylight today. YEAH! The creek about a mile from our home is nearly frozen over. Quite early for this time of year.
We found several Turkeys sitting in the Sumac trees. Of course as soon as we stopped they took off running.

For the first time ever, I had a small flock of Crows eating beneath my feeders. They have never come this close to the house.

Have a good rest of the week.

World Bird Wednesday

Since I haven't taken too many new bird shots this busy Christmas week, I dug back into my files and found this picture I took last year on the creek behind our house. These Wood ducks would spend each evening resting on this old fallen tree.

In our area we have a pair of Bald Eagles that make a visit now and again. This Titmouse is braving the cold and cloudy day.

A flock of European Starlings stopped by for a snack. I do hope they move on, because they can be a pest and eat everything in sight..

Happy World Bird Wednesday. Click on over to http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com/ to see lots more birds.

Ruby Tuesday

I LOVE EEYORE, and this is my favorite Christmas stocking. He even talks to you when you pinch his nose.
Happy Ruby Tuesday everyone. If you click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com/ you can see what a grand job mary/the teach has done with this meme.

Sunny day for a change

Taking a tour around on Saturday will give you a small look at all the snow. This shot shows the snow piled up as high as the stop sign. In the distance the snow in the church parking lot is higher than the cars.

A back country road would make a dandy place for a horse and sleigh ride.

The sky was blue for us and the sun shone all day. It was so welcome and beautiful. I think one of the local meteorologists mentioned that we only are lucky enough to have 5 days of sun in the month December! :~(

This is a stream where I can photograph ducks in the summer. Now frozen and no sign of any wildlife.

No major storms predicted for the up coming week. Some light flurries. Of course this is snow country so you never know. Have a good one..

More from the Ski Resort

More shots from the Ski resort. These condos are a little more fancy than the previous ones I posted.
Sorry they're not too clear. There wasn't much sun out and it was somewhat hazy.. This resort has a lower and an upper golf course. This is the club house for the upper course. No golf being played today!
More condos.

From on top of the mountain looking down over the valley where we live.

The lake ( Findley Lake) near our home it is frozen already. I'm sure the ice isn't all that thick, but it usually doesn't freeze this early. After it does freeze solid there will be plenty of snowmobiles out here !

A small patch of open water and we saw a few Canada geese. As long as there is some water not frozen they will stay.

Today, Saturday is beautiful. The sun is most welcome and we are enjoying it. I took lots of pictures of the snow today and will post them for tomorrow.
Take care.
BTW Just 4 MORE days till the daylight begins to increase! Not much at first. but it's a start!

Local Ski Resort

This is one of the condos at the local ski resort at Peek-n-Peak . There are many more and some much more elegant. Even though we have had over 80" of snow here in the past 2 weeks, they continue to make more..

Some of the rooms at the main lodge.

Another view of the main lodge. You can see the slopes from the rooms on the back side.

More snow machines.

Not many skiers that day. That guy on the left came down the slope backwards...

I have lots more shots. Stay tuned.
I did a total snowfall for this season so far-114", and winter hasn't even begun yet.
