Skywatch Friday

Well friends it's Friday again and almost the end of another week. Have you noticed the weather changing? Getting dark earlier in the evenings, and light later in the mornings? The leaves are changing, the geese flying, and goldenrod blooming, crickets chirping, and worse of all, baseball season is winding down.  All those signs that winter is slowly approaching!
A fast moving storm passed by us to the Southeast yesterday afternoon, but missed us completely. You could hear the thunder, and after about an hour the sun shone again. Rain coming here this afternoon, and then some cooler temps for a day or two.
Have a wonderful weekend, and if you want to see more sky pictures click on http://skyley.blogspot.com .

Skywatch Friday

With all the beautiful skies we've had lately, it's not difficult to spot the jets and their contrails.

Skywatch Friday

Last evening we had a beautiful clear sky, and I took advantage by shooting the waxing gibbous moon.

Skywatch Friday

Last Saturday while watching my granddaughter play baseball, I noticed this halo around the sun. Caused by sunlight or moonlight being diffracted as it passes through cirrostratus clouds that are usually at altitudes above 20,000 feet. Cirrostratus clouds are composed mostly of small ice crystals that spread out into a thin layer. They are sheet-like, and the sun and moon can be seen through them easily.

Skywatch Friday

Not much of a sky shot but it's all we had today. About an inch of heavy wet snow fell last night and with no wind it stuck to everything. It really was pretty. Click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky pictures.

Skywatch Friday

We have had more sunny days this winter than a very long time. Believe me we appreciate every one of them. This was taken on Lake Erie last week on just one of those sunny days. The lake hasn't frozen yet either.

Skywatch Friday

This picture was taken earlier this week at a pond in the neighboring town. It was a beautiful day, and so far because of the mild weather, the Canada geese have remained in the area. As of today we have no snow on the ground except some in the ditches where the snowplows have been.

Skywatch Friday

This weather has been so different this winter and after it rained most of the day, suddenly around 4:30 the sun as it was beginning to set in the West appeared, and I saw this rainbow in the Eastern sky. I hurried out to snap a couple pictures, and just as quickly as it appeared, it was gone. My camera lens got wet, but I wanted to get pictures, because rainbows in the winter are somewhat rare.
Have a great day, and click on http://skyley.blogspot.com  to see lots more sky shots.

Skywatch Friday

I haven't seen any skies worth photographing this week, so I found this one from last summer on Lake Erie. It was a beautiful day, and plenty of fishermen were enjoying the weather.

Skywatch Friday

This was the sunrise last Sunday, and before long the sky was completely cloudy, and before long it began to rain, and we've had the same weather ALL week! This certainly has been a weird December. I keep a record of the temperatures and snowfall totals, and last year by this time ( on Wednesday Dec. 22nd ) we had already had 115". This year so far to date 13.5"of snow and it all has melted.. Hard to believe isn't it?

Skywatch Friday

With the roller coaster weather we've had lately one never knows what the weather might be, so just look out the window and take a guess. Here the geese are moving with a cloudy sky in the background. We've had 2 days of unsettled weather again with high winds and torrential rain most of the day. The local ski resort has been busy making snow, but I'm afraid with 50 deg. temps it won't be long till it melts. Tomorrow cold temps again for a couple days.

Skywatch Friday

Now that Fall is here we have these great flocks of Canada geese flying over at any time of the day, practicing what they do best.

Skywatch Friday

These shots were taken last week- on an evening before dusk. These pictures have not been altered in any way, and the colors were just as you see them. The entire sky filled with pink no matter which way you looked.
To the east.
Looking straight over head.
This is out to the West.
Happy Skywatch everyone.

Skywatch Friday

Another awesome sunrise earlier this week. "Red in the morning" as the saying goes, BUT no rain till today, and then not that much, and now the humidity returns.

Skywatch Friday

We are still in this terrible heat wave. The thermometer says 100 deg. and that is too hot for me. That was at 3:30 this afternoon. The sunrise shot was taken this morning at 6:30.
The granddaughters spend all day in their pool, and they love it!

Skywatch Friday

All the snow we had last night almost melted today, but - sigh- we're supposed to get more tonight.

Earlier this week we did have a couple beautiful days. Soon these fields will be sporting corn and hay.
