Wild Bird Wednesday

It's time for Wild Bird Wednesday, and I haven't really seen any interesting birds to post, so this is from earlier this Spring. We visited a really cool little park in Ohio one afternoon. There are 2 ponds  and walking trails along with lots of beautiful trees and flowers to photograph. This Canada goose family saw us as soon as we arrived on the observation deck, and expecting a treat swam right over. As soon as they decided they weren't going to get any goodies, they promptly headed back out to the far end of the pond.

Cold, Wet, Raining again! and even a wee bit of snow..

I'm afraid I don't have very much to add today. The past  few days have been just so horrible  and lousy weather for picture taking ...Cold , wet, and raining...
This shot was taken at a small local lake that during the morning hours is home to a great flock of Canada geese.
Even in the rain we can pack a lunch and watch trains! On this day we saw at least 10 in a 2 hour period. The train traffic seems to be picking up.
Not far from the train watching area is this beautiful falls and after all the rain lately there seems to be lots of water. Sometimes this falls is dry..
Ok, that's all folks. Snow predicted for Friday.. Take care all...

Sunday

We're due a frost tonight, and I managed to get this shot of the last for sure rose.
I always carry my camera with me when I mow grass, and I was lucky enough to capture this poor Fritillary butterfly. It really is tattered.
In a neighboring town these 100's of Canada geese spend most of the day resting and later will descend on the local corn fields.
I've never seen so many geese in one spot before. I also noticed some Snow geese, and a lone Merganser, but didn't get very good shots. I'll go back tomorrow, and try again if they are there.
As I mentioned a frost is predicted for tonight. The Butternut squash is picked along with all the tomatoes, and all the flowers put into the garage.
Hope everyone is having a good week-end.

Sunday

Look who came by the other morning to check out the living arrangements for this year. Lets hope he brings back the little woman. Mrs. Bluebird has yet to show up. Traveling to a swamp to find more Great Blue Heron nests, I did see one fishing but couldn't locate the nests.
Up in the sky it looks like these jets are racing...
The Chickadee spent lots of the day trying to stay out of the rain. It was a cold, wet, windy day and down right miserable.
These Coots can really swim fast when they are trying to get away from my camera.
Of course there is always time to photograph Canada geese. They are everyplace.
Surprise! I thought there was only one goose and when I uploaded this picture I see there is another one sitting on a nest. I love these kinds of surprises.
Lots of Barn Swallows on the wires everywhere we could see, and flying over the water looking for insects..
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week-end. I will really try to get to your blog tomorrow. Sorry I have been so bad in commenting lately... :~(

Ducks and Geese

On Wednesday we visited the Peninsula on Lake Erie, and saw so many migrating ducks and a few geese. In this shot you can see 100's of Ring billed Sea gulls, and in the foreground lots of Canvasback ducks. Some of these gulls are different, but I'm not sure what they are.
A Canvasback drake in the back. I don't know what the front duck is..We saw more ducks, and I'll post them on Sunday.

Tundra Swans in the front.
I think this is a juvenile pair of Tundras.

Last but not least some ice fishermen way out on the bay with a 4 wheeler! The weather is getting warmer, and there is plenty of water on top of the ice now...You wouldn't catch me out there!

We're getting rain now, and although lots of the snow has melted there is still lots to go. Saturday will be bringing heavy rain and high winds. The creek behind the house is already "bank full"and the sump pump is ready and waiting. Have a great weekend, and scroll down to see my Weekend Reflection picture.

Gulls and Geese

Bottoms up! On a drive to Chautauqua Lake we stop for a minute to watch the waterfowl. These Canada Geese were just coming in for a landing.

With a lake full of water, this gull was drinking from a puddle in the parking lot.
These Ringed Gulls really are cute.

How about this side?

Of course there always has to be a loud mouth in the group!

We watched this one out on the end of the dock doing some preening. I noticed he was limping.

Some neck scratching. You can tell it was very windy.

Then I threw out a small piece of bread and he flew closer.
Take a look at that leg. I'll bet a fish line. Right down to the bone. Ouch!

Have a great week-end all. It's going to rain here, and the butterfly hasn't emerged yet.
Right now the chrysalis doesn't look just right. There are black spots on it. I'll keep you posted.

Pymatuning State Park Part #2

Here are some of the rest of the pictures from Pymatuning State Park. Of the Carp, some reach over 2 1/2 ft. long.
Plenty of hungry mouths.
Mr. and Mrs. Mallard.Big hungry mouths!

Mrs. Mallard looking quite pretty. The water looks like satin...
The onlookers wait their turn.

Some get a bit anxious.
Some have a messy take off..

I took lots more, but these are the best of the group. I took pictures of some old buildings on the way down. Of course we saw a train too, so there are shots of that and some of a Pheasant farm we passed on the way. Then there is Saturday and Sunday. I don't know when to quit! LOL Oh my it's a good thing I'm not buying film! I got pictures of some absolutely awesome clouds this evening. Check back later to see them.
Have a great week.♥
