Last week we took a ride to Lake Erie to check out the birds, and look what we saw. A surfer on Lake Erie. I have lived in this region for many years, and I have NEVER seen anybody surf on Lake Erie. The waves were short, but this guy was having a ball!. Temperatures in the 40's too!

Not one of your best photographs, but I do like the water action as this Bonaparte's Gull takes off from Lake Erie. They could be migrating through this area, since we don't usually see them in the summer months.

Last Friday it was a beautiful day, and we decided to search for beach glass. As you can see there are tons of dead leaves washed up on shore from those really high winds we had. That does lessen the chance of finding much glass, but I still had a great day.

Skywatch Friday

Another very super windy day and we took off early this morning for Lake Erie searching for water spouts, but we were disappointed ( again) since we didn't see any, but were rewarded with plenty of shots of the high winds and huge waves. At one time as I stood on the beach taking pictures the wind was so fierce I nearly got blown over. The skies were dark and angry all day.

Watery Wednesday

This is a good look at the beaver dam built across the creek that runs behind our home. These Beavers are bank Beavers. They actually live in the banks of the creek instead of lodges. This dam gets washed away each time the water gets high, but they are really persistent, and will rebuild as many times as necessary.

On our trip Monday to Erie, Pa this is a shot taken from the lower platform at the Bicennential Tower. This image looks out over the Bay at Presque Isle. Plenty of spots for fishing, or just to relax in the Fall sun.

It was such a beautiful day yesterday and a perfect day for sailing. The winds were pretty stiff, and this sailboat took no time at all getting out of the harbor.

On a recent trip to Ashtabula, Ohio we visited the coal processing facility where all the coal trains used to be. The last time there were barely any trains a sure sign of the faltering economy.
Along the Ashtabula River is a lovely walkway with beautiful hanging flower baskets.

We were near Chautauqua Lake the other day and stopped by the water for lunch. We saw these seaweed clearing machines. They travel through the shallow water, and scoop up the seaweed, and it is carried into the center of this machine on a conveyor belt.

I took a walk on the creek trail this afternoon, and saw the Mallard drake again. This time the hen was with him, so I guess she isn't setting on any eggs yet.He let me get quite close before they both swam away.
