Sorry I'm so late, but it has been a weary couple of days. I finally reached the computer tech and we spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone and ran scans on this PC all night. No problems showed up, but I still have some issues. Anyway the computer was down till this morning.
I do need an external hard drive to support all the pictures I take, and I picked up another "My Book" storage unit. The big blow was yesterday afternoon I accidentally deleted ALL the pictures I had taken at the Interior firefighters class on Tuesday night, and there were 85 of them! I was so bummed out! Fortunately the instructor had uploaded the pictures earlier in the evening to his computer, so at least I can get them back!
On the way home from town this afternoon we did see this pair of Wood ducks. They were nice not to fly away.
Last Tuesday morning around 03:47 this Raccoon showed up on the nature trail and had his picture taken by the game camera. They are on the move now, so I will need to take the seed from my feeders in at night , and secure the bird houses.

Watery Wednesday

I took this picture 2 weeks ago at a training session for interior firefighters. I was lucky to catch a rainbow.
Happy Watery Wednesday to everyone.

Ruby Tuesday

While in my home town this afternoon we happened to stop at the local Historical Society. This room reminded me of my great grandfather. He owned a general store in the late 1800's, and I can imagine it looked just like this picture. It would be awesome to board a time machine and go back there for just one day!

Macro Monday

The ever present Dandelion. You gotta love them!
Happy Macro Monday to everybody. Thanks Lisa for hosting this cool meme.

Beautiful Saturday

All the following pictures were taken around home and down on the creek trail.
I love these little bright Goldfinches. Friday morning the temp dipped to 21 deg. and you can see the left over frost on the grass when the sun finally warms up the air.
This Red tailed hawk has a nest up the road. I finally can see a bird head in the nest. I also saw an adult hawk sitting way on top of an old dead tree. This nest is on private property and I can't get any closer.

A cute Song sparrow hunts for food along the creek edge.

A large group of Water Boatman bugs float on the creek.

The white Violets are beginning to bloom.

Azrael watching the birdfeeders, ( and hoping).

We have rain getting closer, and at least it will be warmer.
Have a wonderful week-end.

Skywatch Friday

Sunrise Sunset

All taken from our property in the same day. We actually have had a beautiful week although we still are experiencing freezing temps at night.
Our participation for Earth Day was going with our 2 granddaughters Becca, and Jalyn and picking up all the trash from along side the road and in the ditches near our homes. The girls did a terrific job, and felt so proud to help and felt sure Mother earth was smiling on us.
Thanks to everyone that keeps this meme going. Click on http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more skies.

More nice weather

On a ride the other day we saw this red fox running across the field. The creek trail is beginning to look more like Spring now.
Trout Lily. We call them Adder tongue.

This is Mrs. Mallard.

Skunk Cabbage.

It was a beautiful day! We love it.

Watery Wednesday

I took a walk on the creek trail this afternoon, and saw the Mallard drake again. This time the hen was with him, so I guess she isn't setting on any eggs yet.He let me get quite close before they both swam away.
Thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for the meme. Click on her site http://waterywednesday.blogspot.com to see more watery shots.
I'm still having major computer problems and never know when they will appear. I'm working on it...

Macro Monday

It's Macro Monday again ( where does the time go?), and this week a male Purple Finch stopped by for a snack of sunflower seeds. I just love his color. I have only seen this one pair where in past years I had many.

Busy Saturday

OK, it's been a really busy week for us. We've been out nearly every day and I haven't had much time to get new pictures. Ordering steel for a new roof on the barn, picking up new grates and bricks for our wood stove, looking at new tires for the van, and on and on.
All these shots are from last Thursday here on our property and near-by.
The beaver dam is just about completed across this part of the creek. I found some Marsh Marigolds, also known as Cowslip. The leaves are wonderful cooked like spinich and eaten before the flowers appear.
Forsythia in our back yard. They have been especially pretty this year.

A female Goldfinch. I have several pair.

Also showing up on the same day is this male White Throated sparrow. I used to see them during the winter, but not this year. Sorry the pictures aren't very clear. I was shooting through a window down toward the ground.

Down on the creek trail is this lone Mallard drake. I had seen his mate for a few days, now she is missing and I think she must be setting on a nest someplace since I have seen him in this same area for a couple days all alone.

Up the road on a bridge we spotted a Great Blue Heron and of course when I stopped the van he promptly flew away.

In case anyone cares, it is snowing here tonight. The ground is covered, and the temp. is 32º
Anymore we just don't talk about it! Spring will be here to stay when it is ready...
I spent 5 hours out in the cold and wind today taking pictures at the fireman's training session again. This time they burned 2 cars, and practiced entering a burning building. I nearly froze, but they were all warm enough. LOL

Weekend Reflections

I'm still taking pictures of the interior firefighters training sessions, and this reflection in the fire truck windshield will be perfect for Weekend Reflections.

What a day for fantastic clouds!

Here, there, and everywhere.

These pictures will be from all over and from the past week.
Now that the ice has melted from Chautauqua Lake it's time for the boating season. This man and his dog enjoy a ride. Right where we were parked watching the man in the boat we noticed all the 1000's of bugs swarming around this picnic table.
Not a good place to eat lunch either! :(

Houseboats near the bay, Lake Erie. Ready for it's summer residents.

Tundra Swans, Bay on Lake Erie.
I'm wondering if they will stay the summer.

Wood ducks on French Creek behind our house.

On the road where we took pictures of the Bald Eagle last week, this farm is huge!

Back on French Creek again, the industrious beavers are at it again. The dam is growing by the day.

Have a great day all. I haven't gotten my computer fixed yet, so I'm still limping along.

Watery Wednesday

Taking a ride to the Peninsula on Lake Erie to get pictures of the nesting Owl, I spotted a trio of Slider turtles basking in the afternoon sun on this old log.

Thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for this meme. Click Here to see more watery shots. I did manage to get some shots of the female Great Horned Owl sitting on the nest. See my header.. I wasn't able to see the mate anywhere.

I don't know if there are any chicks yet, and I couldn't get very close either because of the danger of these Owls attacking. We had gone yesterday morning, but the light just wasn't right, and we went back tonight before sunset.
