Weekend Reflections

This is Graveyard Pond on the Peninsula, Lake Erie two days ago. It was a gorgeous day, and very warm unlike today which is 40 deg. and cloudy.

Skywatch Friday

The storm that was to reach us by midnight last night never got here. It swung to the South and East. I'm very glad because we didn't need any more rain right now!
This shot was taken around 4:30 PM today. It was actually was a nice day but really windy. About an hour later this is what we got. Now as I type at 8PM the skies are clearing again.
Welcome Spring!
Happy SWF to everyone, and click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com/ to see lots more sky shots.

Mostly Yellow

I can't believe it, there has been so much yellow lately. A very welcome Spring color.

A flurry of Goldfinches has arrived, and they are so cute. This little female does quite a balancing act,

They're everywhere, they're everywhere.

Had a good train watching day too. The train traffic seems to be picking up a bit. That's a good thing.

Then of course the ever present Dandelion. Right now they are a welcome sight.

The poor Forsythia is getting rained on almost daily.

Up the road from home some beautiful single daffodils bloom along side a downed Beaver tree. These flowers came with some dirt a passerby dumped along side the road about 5 years ago, and every Spring they give us more and more blooms.

World Bird Wednesday

This White-throated sparrow finally made an appearance at my feeders today. Hard to photograph since he flits everywhere at top speed, still I was glad to see him

Ruby Tuesday

This is a cute little honest to goodness one room school house not far from us. It was built in 1853, and still continues to excite gradeschool children that come with their class in period dress to spend the day just as kids did so long ago.
Happy Ruby Tuesday to everyone. To see what Mary/the teach has done with this fun meme, click on over to http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com/

Macro Monday

For Christmas my sister gave me an herb kit. I have chives, parsley, and basil. This is the basil, and it smells so good. Good too to see something green growing after the long winter.
Happy Macro Monday to everybody, and click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see lots more close-ups.

HAPPY EASTER

Driving by a local lake, I spotted this one lone Common Loon. We don't see them too often and I was excited to see this one. It was out quite far, and the water was really rough due to the high winds. I'm actually surprised I got anything at all. I think it might be a non-breeding adult.

The Red-bellied woodpeckers are still hanging around. This is the male and he comes to the feeders every day, and will chase all the other birds away. I was fortunate to photograph an Eagles nest this past week, although I couldn't get as close as I would have liked to. It was a very cold and windy day, and I had to walk about 1/4 mile through a wet bumpy hay field. I think you can see the chick in the nest in front of the parent Eagle.

Back at home a pair of Mourning doves decide whether they want this piece of material for their nest.

A male Goldfinch and a male Purple finch sit on top of my weather station discussing all the rain we've been having lately and if they should move South!.

A wet and stormy night. Lots of lightning and thunder. In the past 4 days we have gotten 4" of rain and the creek is very high and running fast.

A Happy and Blessed Easter to all. Have a wonderful day.

Weekend Reflections

Taking a ride earlier this week in hopes of finding an Eagle's nest, I did see some cool reflections in this swamp, but no sign of the Eagle nest. Probably I was just looking in the wrong place.

Unsettled weather coming for us this week-end.
Happy Easter to all.

Skywatch Friday

A few nights ago the moon was a gorgeous yellow/orange color, and with all the big dark clouds passing by, I just had to try my hand at night photography.
Thanks to all for stopping by, and do click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com/ to see what the gang has done with this fun meme.

Here it is Thursday again

Another stormy, really stormy night last night and you can see the creek is over it's banks again! We got 2" of rain, and the creek is running very fast! Lots of heavy thunder and lightening enough to wake the dead! Welcome Spring! This House Finch gives me the "evil eye" saying he doesn't like this wet weather at all!

The Mourning Dove is all huddled against the cold.

Then he decides to do a bit of preening. Might as well get all the feathers in order.

Along the shores of Lake Erie a Bonaparte's gull cruises along.

That's all for today. There might be a flurry or two tonight. UGH! Enough is enough!

Have a wonderful rest of the week all.

World Bird Wednesday

I was excited to see this Chipping Sparrow because there haven't been any here at my feeders in several years. It is such a cute little bird, and I can remember my grandmother feeding them when I was very young.

Happy World Bird Wednesday, and if you will click on http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com/ you can see lots more birds.

Macro Monday

It's Macro Monday, and now that the Crocus are open, the Bees are beginning to get active. All we need now is more warm weather. Happy Spring, and Happy Macro Monday. Do click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see lots more close-ups.

Sunday

Look who came by the other morning to check out the living arrangements for this year. Lets hope he brings back the little woman. Mrs. Bluebird has yet to show up. Traveling to a swamp to find more Great Blue Heron nests, I did see one fishing but couldn't locate the nests.
Up in the sky it looks like these jets are racing...
The Chickadee spent lots of the day trying to stay out of the rain. It was a cold, wet, windy day and down right miserable.
These Coots can really swim fast when they are trying to get away from my camera.
Of course there is always time to photograph Canada geese. They are everyplace.
Surprise! I thought there was only one goose and when I uploaded this picture I see there is another one sitting on a nest. I love these kinds of surprises.
Lots of Barn Swallows on the wires everywhere we could see, and flying over the water looking for insects..
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week-end. I will really try to get to your blog tomorrow. Sorry I have been so bad in commenting lately... :~(

Weekend Reflections

The weekend is upon us, and after having two days of beautiful and warmer weather we are in for a cold, windy, and rainy day Saturday. I took this shot last Wednesday at Findley Lake New York, a small lake 5 miles from us. The ice has finally melted, and now the migratory birds/ducks will begin stopping over for a few days. Happy weekend to everybody, and click on over to http://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com to see lots more reflections. Thanks to James for this meme.

Skywatch Friday

Now that we are getting more sunny days, we are also getting more interesting cloud formations. Happy Skywatch Friday, and click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see what a great job the gang has done with this meme.

Thursday and Just Stuff

This moon shot was taken on a beautiful day about 9AM. This Great Egret was on the beach where we search for beach glass. It's too wet and muddy to walk around there yet, and we usually only see the Egret during migration time.
I took Tauqua on a walk on one of our trails and he has found a woodchuck hole to investigate.
The leeks are coming up. Oh that smell. Love it!
On a train watching day, we had some luck seeing a Norfolk Southern engine coming our way.
It was pulling a long mixed freight train. This Red-tailed hawk's nest is not far from our home and it looks like there is a bird sitting on the nest.
I hope everyone is having a great week so far.
