World Bird Wednesday

Sorry I had to show more shots from Lake Erie and the Bonaparte's gulls, but we went back this week, and they were still fishing in the very same place!
As you can see, some were resting on the docks too, maybe digesting their dinner.
DIVE-DIVE
Sometimes the Red-breasted Mergansers joined in.
A few Buffleheads still hanging around.

Ruby Tuesday

Since we have had more rain again lately, I tried to find something on our LLama trail, and there seemed to be plenty of Sumac this year. Last season they all froze.

Macro Monday

In the summer these Burdocks are a pretty color of green and purple, but now they have lost all this color, and are brown for Fall. I know first hand because I backed into this bush and had them stuck all over my jacket!

Weeks End

These shots are just more of the pictures I posted last week when we went to Lake Erie and saw all the Red-breasted Mergansers, plus all the 1000's of Bonaparte's gulls all in a feeding frenzy.
More of the Mergansers headed toward the fish.
Below a look at the cliffs and the waves crashing into the rocks.
There was a gusty North wind.
Before we left I threw some popcorn out for the Ring-billed gulls just to practice my in-flight shots.
Our family had Thanksgiving with my sister today and what a wonderful time we had to say nothing of the awesome food! Thanks Jude!

Weekend Reflections

At the outlet of a small lake near here I usually see some Canada geese paddling around in these waters, but on this day there weren't and instead a cool reflection.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and to those of you that went shopping today, I hope you found some great bargains...

Skywatch Friday

Even on Thanksgiving you could find lots of contrails in the sky. I'm wondering if these planes are late or ahead of schedules?
I hope everyone had a safe holiday, and we are enjoying at least one more day of warm weather..

Happy Thanksgiving

I just wanted to wish everyone a very and safe Happy Thanksgiving.

This morning my barn cat Azrael spied a Sparrow eating some seed that I had put in the sun dial.

She circled around for at least 10 minutes, hoping for the right moment for an ambush.
But, it wasn't to be, she waited too long, and the Sparrow flew away.
Have a wonderful holiday..

World Bird Wednesday

On a recent visit to Lake Erie, I was lucky to see lots of Migrating birds.
First picture shows Buffleheads.
Most were sleeping, and the water was fairly calm.
In this picture there was a rather large flock of Red-breasted Mergansers, and flying Bonaparte's gulls.
There must have been some fish in this area because they were very active.
Also I saw a few Horned Grebes.
Also on nearby Findley Lake, a small flock of Tundra swans rested for a few days.

Ruby Tuesday

We did have a nice Spring despite all the rain, and the Wild Roses provided us with an abundance of rose hips.
Happy Ruby Tuesday everyone, and click on over to Mary's site http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com to see more RED.

Weekend

This day was a good day watching trains, and we saw 6 within a couple hours period. That's improving which is possible that the railroad traffic and the economy is picking up in our area.
While there I did see a pair of Eastern Bluebirds. I would have thought they would be in the South by now. Earlier this week not 2 miles from this spot the weather turned very bad one evening and 2 tornados set down. No injuries, but several buildings were damaged
Back home, near here on Findley Lake a flock of Tundra swans have spent a few days. I couldn't get very many of them because there were just too many trees in the way.
A beautiful day with lots of gun shots all around being the first day of deer season in New York. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Weekend Reflections

My reflection for this week is taken at the end of our back yard after an all day and all night rain raised the creek about 3 feet. The sign on the tree says Turtle Crossing, and is the entrance to the creek trail, but it looks like I won't be going down anytime soon. You can see the creek in the background, and it was really high that day..

Skywatch Friday

We were predicted big time changing weather today, and this was the sky around noon.
A little later the clouds changed, the winds picked up, and the geese took to the sky moving away from here.
About supper time off to the East the skies were a light pink, and over head they were angry looking just before the snow began. Now 3 hours later we have 1" and mounting.
Happy Skywatch, and do click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see lots more sky shots.

Catch Up

I saw this Bald Eagle the other day on Clymer pond, and it seemed to be eating on something on the ground.
Soon it flew up to a tall tree, and with it's back to me it was time to go. No more decent pictures.
Back at home later on that same day, the sky was crowded with 100's of gulls. We live 30 miles from any bigger lake.
I tried to capture this Merganser, but he had other ideas.
This is Findley Lake and a great place to watch for migrating waterfowl.

World Bird Wednesday

This week we took a ride to Lake Erie looking for the Bonaparte's gulls. I was surprised to see 100's of them all swimming, diving, and basically having fun.
Taking a dive.
