Weekend Reflections

For a reflection this week I found this shot back in my archives. It's of my cat Frosty about a year ago looking at her reflection in a bucket of water.
Have a great weekend, and click over to http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com to see lots more cool reflections.

It's Thursday Again

Just some shots from around home. With 12" of snow the past few days, we haven't been on the road very much.
The Mourning doves resting on the snow, and what they didn't know a Sharpie hawk was spying on them.
Frosty doing what she does best. Napping the whole day. Of course she has the night shift and keeps Tauqua company all night.
A few of the gang stopping in for lunch.
Leaving their feet prints in the snow. They are so cute!
Just practicing my moon shots. We get so few clear skies in the winter, one must take the moment., and today was the day.
A Waxing Gibbous moon.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Happy Thanksgiving

I just wanted to wish everyone a very and safe Happy Thanksgiving.

This morning my barn cat Azrael spied a Sparrow eating some seed that I had put in the sun dial.

She circled around for at least 10 minutes, hoping for the right moment for an ambush.
But, it wasn't to be, she waited too long, and the Sparrow flew away.
Have a wonderful holiday..

Catch Up

Just catching up on a few shots I hadn't posted.
This is Azrael, my fierce mouse/ chipmunk hunter clowning around in the driveway.
Looking up through the willow trees on the creek trail, the sky is so beautiful. I just wish we could see more of it this time of year.
I happened to spot a male Bluebird this morning on this telegraph pole. I would think he should be headed south by now.
The Larch trees are loosing their needles, and it will be next spring before they are green again.
The weather is turning on us after several really nice days, and we might get some snow!

Scenes From Around Home

The hard rain we've had didn't ruin all the leaves yet, but there is more rain and wind on the way for the next two days.
The Pin Oak always has some beautiful leaves.
Our rescue dog Tauqua, and Frosty like to cuddle.
This cold wet Goldfinch sits on a shepherds hook during the heavy rain.

We took a ride yesterday out to the Peninsula on Lake Erie, and this is what you see as you enter Presque isle.
Back at home not far away, these cows cool off during a warm day.
More rain tomorrow, and cooler days to come.

Weekend Reflections

It's time for Weekend Reflections again, and when there is nothing much around that isn't frozen to photograph with reflections, I did manage to see Frosty looking at herself in the dog's water bowl.

Catch up again.

It wasn't too bad of a day Wednesday. We even had some sun, but there weren't any new birds or animals to photograph, so you will have to settle for trees, snowflakes, and Frosty

This area had so many beautiful interesting trees covered in frozen fog!

Another shot from last week when we were at the corn crib. These turkeys can take to the air amazingly fast for a big bird.

Frosty just waking up from a nap in her basket bed. She now sleeps in here and will let the dog have his bed all to himself...

Here is what the county snow plows did to our mail box! Ours is the green one. This is the 3rd time in one month. Our son fixed it and it looks like new, but how long will it be before it's trashed again? Probably when the next big snows hit us.

Rimed Crystals. Clouds are made of countless water droplets, and sometime these droplets collide and stick to snow crystals. The frozen droplets are called rime. All the different types of snow crystals can be found decorated with Rime. When the coverage is especially heavy so that the assembly looks like a tiny snowball, the result is called GRAUPEL. This crystal is a Stellar Crystal covered with rime. That's about all for today. Tomorrow it's an oil change for the van, and it's an early appointment. The day should give us more sun too. That certainly will be welcome.
I hope you all have a productive and easy day.

Tonight as I type this, it's 8 deg. out and a beautiful clear night.

Of birds, dogs and cats

We had quite a snowy day again. A total of 7" fell and this time it was light and fluffy . It really is quite beautiful how it clings to all the trees.
Total for this season so far is 37" The temperature never got above 23º either.
The Cardinals came and spent some time since the Blue Jays have wandered off elsewhere. Even the Mrs. stayed for a while. I actually had 3 pair this afternoon, but never could catch any more than one at a time.

One lone Starling chowed down on the suet. Time to make some more. If a flock of these Starlings discover my feeders they will clean up everything in no time.
The wind picked up, and made for a bad hair moment.

Last but not least, the two are now buddies. Tauqua even tries to play with Frosty, but with his long legs he is so clumsy. They are just too funny to watch. Oh yes, he always cleans up her dish when she is finished eating, so that I won't have to.

Ruby Tuesday

Well, it is Ruby Tuesday, and this is Azrael sitting on the hitching rail outside our barn. I don't think she wanted her picture taken!

More Just Stuff

This first 3 pictures are for Joan. I'm not exactly a "bug" lady, but I wanted to show our granddaughters what a Katydid looked like, and to tell them they don't bite.
This guy was most cooperative, and here he is manicuring one of his toes.

Next a closeup of the face. Looks like something from a SiFi movie...

We've had lots of rain lately and there are water drops on the "berries" which are on the fronds of my Asparagus ferns. They will soon be turning red.

This is Oscar. He is a gorgeous cat, and belongs to our neighbors. He is also spying on my birds in this shot. He is more than welcome to come over here anytime to keep any mice in check, although Azrael doesn't think the same as I do. LOL. Most of the birds get away. Oscar has light blue eyes, not really seen in this picture.
On Monday I posted a Wood frog. Here not 5 feet away from that frog was this Wood Toad, only about 1" across.

On my daily walks with dog I see lots of these miniature Queen Anne's Lace. They are less than 2", and only about 6"-8" high.
OK, enough for today. I trust you are all having a great one. I'll be canning tomatoes, freezing beans, and making something from zucchini. Most likely relish, but the possibilities are endless.
