Mostly Yellow

I can't believe it, there has been so much yellow lately. A very welcome Spring color.

A flurry of Goldfinches has arrived, and they are so cute. This little female does quite a balancing act,

They're everywhere, they're everywhere.

Had a good train watching day too. The train traffic seems to be picking up a bit. That's a good thing.

Then of course the ever present Dandelion. Right now they are a welcome sight.

The poor Forsythia is getting rained on almost daily.

Up the road from home some beautiful single daffodils bloom along side a downed Beaver tree. These flowers came with some dirt a passerby dumped along side the road about 5 years ago, and every Spring they give us more and more blooms.

Thursday and Just Stuff

This moon shot was taken on a beautiful day about 9AM. This Great Egret was on the beach where we search for beach glass. It's too wet and muddy to walk around there yet, and we usually only see the Egret during migration time.
I took Tauqua on a walk on one of our trails and he has found a woodchuck hole to investigate.
The leeks are coming up. Oh that smell. Love it!
On a train watching day, we had some luck seeing a Norfolk Southern engine coming our way.
It was pulling a long mixed freight train. This Red-tailed hawk's nest is not far from our home and it looks like there is a bird sitting on the nest.
I hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Thursday and more cold and snow

Well, they say Spring is here, but in words only. We got 3" of heavy wet snow last night, and maybe some freezing rain over night..
I was surprised yesterday afternoon by this female Redpoll. Earlier in the winter I saw some too, but they didn't stay. I don't imagine this one will hang around either, but at least I did get some pictures this time.
There are a few Song Sparrows still hanging around too. They will be moving on soon.

A cold wet Mourning dove rests on my weather station.

Now that the snow is all gone, look what the Moles have done to our back yard. I don't remember ever seeing it this bad, and it will take lots of lawn rolling.

Daylillies are popping up, so I know there is hope out there that Spring can't be that far off.

More nice weather

On a ride the other day we saw this red fox running across the field. The creek trail is beginning to look more like Spring now.
Trout Lily. We call them Adder tongue.

This is Mrs. Mallard.

Skunk Cabbage.

It was a beautiful day! We love it.

Another nice day

It was a beautiful day although the temperature never got above 52ยบ, it still felt quite cool.
The Turkey vultures are back and searching for Food! On the Llama trail those beavers are gnawing down more trees. I have yet to see any of them since they work 3rd shift! Need to get that game camera set up...
Also on the trail the Daylilies are poking through the ground.

On a recent trip to the beach, where we're waiting for the snow to disappear so we can resume our beach glass hunt, there was plenty of Canada geese feet prints.

I believe this picnic table will need some TLC before it can be used this year.

That's all for now. I'm having some computer issues and I'm glad I was able to get this much on. Have a great day.

Macro Monday

For Macro Monday this week I decided to post a picture of this hat pin I wore on my uniform for years every Spring when I went to work. It always reminded me of warmer weather coming and best of all more sunshine.
Happy Macro Monday to everybody.

CATCH-UP

I am getting so far behind with my pictures, and I just keep taking more. What ever will I do? LOL
Anyway here are a few from the past 2 weeks. Nothing special, just a mix.
This shadow reminded me of a deer antler. Actually it is the shadow from a hanging limb from another tree. A big old Sycamore tree leaning toward the creek. The high water did some damage to the trees near the creek this winter.
Here are the roots from that tree, more exposed than last year.
There are signs here of Spring after all. This is a Aspen tree in bud.
More early signs. Daffodils...
Grackles are everywhere, but I love the iridescent colors
The "eyes" have it !
Just a pretty spring day in the country.
Still some water in the fields where the Sea Gulls find a good place to catch a nap. PS, this is the same water where I first photographed the Tundra swans a couple weeks ago.
Plenty of male American Robins defending their territories. I haven't seen any females yet.
Mrs. Red Bellied woodpecker is still with us, but no Mr. seen yet. This old snag was the home to a family of House Wrens last summer, but the top of the snag fell off during one of our high wind storms. Guess they'll have to find a new home.
Last week-end we were surprised by a ride in this wagon pulled by a pair of Belgian horses. They came right in our driveway to pick us up.

Enough for today. Hope everyone is having a wonderful and safe week-end. Take care.
The End.
