Scenes you almost never see in March

It's been a long time since I've seen my Crocus bloom this early..
Findley Lake about 5 miles from home has no ice left, and even the fishermen are out enjoying the beautiful weather.
We saw a few folks out in their kayaks too.
No ice or even snow left on French Creek either, and the Robins are enjoying a Spring bath.

All this beautiful weather certainly makes one wonder if this is just a tease, or are we in for a real winter blast yet to come???
Have a great rest of the weekend.

Weekend Reflections

The weather here in SW New York state has been quite nice the past few days, and I was able yesterday morning to capture another reflection from Findley Lake not far from us. When there is no wind, the possibilities are endless.

Weekend Reflections

Taking a ride around Findley Lake early one morning when the water was so still, I found this glorious reflection. I took several more pictures, so in the coming weeks, you might see more.

Weekend Reflections

The weekend is upon us, and after having two days of beautiful and warmer weather we are in for a cold, windy, and rainy day Saturday. I took this shot last Wednesday at Findley Lake New York, a small lake 5 miles from us. The ice has finally melted, and now the migratory birds/ducks will begin stopping over for a few days. Happy weekend to everybody, and click on over to http://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com to see lots more reflections. Thanks to James for this meme.

Riding around Findley Lake near our home, this cottage appears to be buttoned up for the winter.

Watery Wednesday

It was a beautiful evening Tuesday, and we went for a ride and got an ice cream cone. We stopped by Findley Lake too for a few minutes to watch the boats. This house is so beautiful from the backside where the road is, but I guess I hadn't paid much attention to the front.

Friday Dec 5th

Well, early Thursday morning I got out some of the Christmas decorations. I worked on putting things around till 11:30 when we decided to quit for a while and go for a ride to watch trains since it wasn't raining or snowing. This first shot is on Findley Lake and a large flock of ducks swam into view. I got a couple of pictures before they went way out to the middle of the lake. I've been searching through my Sibley's but for the life of me can't ID them. I'm leaning toward Ring-necked ducks, but hope somebody out there can HELP me. I cropped the other shot in hopes it will help. They were so far away, and really looked all black. It's amazing what you will see when you get home and upload your images.
On our way we passed the grape fields all sleeping now after a very good harvest.

The Norfolk Southern was running, but we've noticed lately all the train traffic is down. A sign of the sinking economy? ?
Also notice NO snow. We were about 5 miles from Lake Erie and they didn't get very much from that last event. Most is already melted.
When you leave the spot where we watch trains you climb a long road to the top of a hill, and you can see Canada from this vantage point. I think it is Long Point.
Even though it was a really cloudy day this big ship is still recognizable. 20 some miles away.
Checking out all the streams for wildlife. None here.
Driving by this farmers big corn crib we spotted this darling little doe. She must be this years baby.

I hope she hasn't eaten all this corn by herself. She will have a tummy ache! LOL. Seriously I'm sure other deer plus mice and rats have helped.
She didn't mind that I stopped to take her picture till along came a loud vehicle, and then she ran away.
As we neared home this stream was full of Mallards.
They also decided it was time to head out!

Thursday afternoon the sun came out, and we decided to take a short ride to enjoy this rare beauty.
This first shot is on Findley Lake. It isn't completely frozen yet, and in the open water there is lots of ducks, and of course this Great Blue Heron took off as soon as I stopped. I was looking for Trumpeter Swans, but didn't see any. These three Mallards didn't seem to mind if I took their picture.
I spotted another Heron, and he took off too.
On the way home we drove by this field and these two horses were right by the road. I didn't tell them, but they were free, and didn't know it. The electric fence was buried beneath the snow, and they could have stepped right over it and got out. Instead they were nosing beneath the snow looking for grass.

A beautiful Appaloosa.
A stream out in the woods didn't offer any wildlife.
I saw this hawk, but couldn't get a very good close up with out it being blurry, so I don't know what kind it is. Anyway it flew away before I got more pictures.
We're having our family Thanksgiving on Saturday. My sister is coming. She had to work Thursday, so now we'll all be together. There will be 8 of us.
Snow report. Another 6" today bringing the total for this season to 54" Anybody need some?
