Weekend Reflections

Last week taking a ride to the Peninsula on Lake Erie, this big log always has plenty of turtles to photograph. They now have put in a really nice platform near these turtles too so folks can take pictures all they want.

Around Home

Walking out to pick up the mail this afternoon I saw this mama and babe Mourning dove resting on the fence. I don't think mama thought I saw her because she held so still and even let me get some pictures. We have lots of black Locust trees on our property, and the blossoms are very fragrant this year. They smell like Concord grapes.

There seems to be lots of Whitetail Dragonflies this year too. Last summer I didn't see very many.

On my creek walk last week on a really warm day I almost stepped on this Garter snake. He was sunning himself on some dried weeds.

This is the first snake I have seen around here in many years, and this one is at least 23" long!

A couple Mallards lounge during a beautiful day.

A Skimmer Dragonfly.

Yesterday afternoon I walked along the creek trail which by the way hasn't been mowed this year yet. It has been under water so many times, the ground is still soft mud, and the grass is getting pretty high. Anyway as I stood on the creek bank looking out toward the water, I saw this huge Soft-shelled turtle swimming up stream. The water it still quite swift, and this dude is really a strong swimmer.

As soon as he saw me, he headed out farther, and I couldn't get any closer.

Then I watched for a while as this Robin took a bath.

Another storm roared through here this afternoon, so now everything is wet again.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend.

Watery Wednesday

Monday was a beautiful day and by the lake in one of the ponds, it was just warm enough for this Map turtle to take in a bit of sun.

Of Turtles, Owls, Geese, and Swans

After the lousy week-end weather wise, it was beautiful and we decided we had better hit the road because the rest of the week looks iffy.
We went to the Peninsula in Erie, Pennsylvania where all these pictures were taken.
This first shot is of one of the Great Horned Owl parents in the nest. There are 2 chicks. This is one of them.
Another shot and you can just see a small bit of the adult Owl behind the chick.

The Mute Swans are still on the Bay. Now there are two pair.

Lots of Canada Geese.

Plenty of Gulls too.

Looks like a Swan feather.

I found a big log loaded with Slider turtles.

This guy looks like he is molting.

Another COLD night. Last night we had a HARD freeze, and most likely lost all of our apples, and probably all my Hostas too. Time will tell.

Watery Wednesday

This shot actually was taken the summer of 2008. It's not been a very nice day weather wise, so I thought it best to find something more interesting. I still am not going on our trails due to the deer hunting season still in progress.
Happy Watery Wednesday everyone, and a big thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for hosting this site.

Watery Wednesday

It's Watery Wednesday, and since we had 8.5" of snow yesterday, I needed to dig this shot out of my archives from last year. I love turtles, and we saw this bunch enjoying the summer sun. I'm thinking the turtles would just love it if we got some sun now! !
