Busy week-end

A really busy day yesterday, so I didn't get to take many pictures. We had our Thanksgiving so my sister could be with us. She is a nurse and had to work last Thursday.
Well, as you can see, with over 2" of rain in this past week , the beaver dam has washed out again, but they are busy gnawing trees for the rebuild. The creek is up at least 2 feet.

I found these pretty leaves in my perennial garden

Oh yes, we got 2.5 " of snow last night. And so it begins. Warmer temps for the beginning of the week though..

Beaver Damage and a Great Blue Heron

Saturday afternoon I walked all our trails looking for beaver damage. Since we had more rain last week, and the creek is high again, the beaver dam had almost washed away and that means more trees needed to rebuild.
Anyway, on my travels I came across this Great Blue Heron. Usually they are so skittish they fly away, but this guy didn't appear too frightened. I think he was just cold, and he was fishing.

A beaver downed tree across the trail.

The waterway in back that they have made to float the trees to their dam.

This area certainly will need more work.

These trees are at least 4" in diameter.

The scenery is changing each day now. All the trees are either Aspen or Sumac, so no permanent damage, and they will grow back.
The next problem to address is the Skunk that is getting into my barn every night. Boy the smell is over powering! Two nights he had dug a hole underneath the back wall, and most likely searching for something to eat. I'm going to try to trap him. Stay tuned...
