Barn Charm

About 6 miles from our home is this cool house that has been transformed from an old barn. The folks have done such a really awesome job. I just love it. I couldn't get all the pretty flowers they had planted either.. It's called the Lazy Farmer Ranch.
I had to go back 2 days so I could get pictures from 3 sides and when nobody was around.

Barn Charm

This barn is about 20 miles from here and has had no residents in probably 30 years. I would love to know how many dairy cows once called this home. The place is huge!

Barn Charm

This is my first post for Barn Charm, and I thought this barn would be a good one to begin with. We live in the country and I have lots of barn pictures, so I'll try to get some on each week.

Easter Sunday

Driving by Chautauqua Lake this week, I noticed the gulls have returned after a short absence thus winter. I got some cool shots and will post them on World Bird Wednesday.
I actually don't remember where this swamp is, and I looked for some ducks, but didn't see any.
I've wanted to post this barn for a long time but we finally got the chance to photograph it this weekend. It is the biggest complex I have ever seen, and it has been empty for many, many years. I can only imagine how many cows used to call this home.
Last but not least, HAPPY EASTER to everyone...

Now It's Raining!

We went on a barn search earlier this week. This first one is not far from our home, but  I really was interested in the clouds.
Liked the curved roof on this one..
I just had to capture the cute little pony in the doorway of this barn.
I have this bird house hanging in my front yard, and I've already seen a Chickadee checking it out. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We've had several days with gorgeous weather, but today it rained most all day.

Ruby Tuesday

We pass this poor old barn many times when we go to watch trains, and every time I feel sorry for it, that no one cares any more. I wonder if once it housed many happy animals, and the smell of fresh mown hay was unforgettable.

Ruby Tuesday

Many times I have driven by this barn, and many times I wanted a picture, but last Tuesday I finally stopped. It's a unique picture of a barn on the front of a barn.

Catch Up

We did have two days this past week when we got more snow. Only a couple inches, but it seems winter just won't give up! I always like looking at bird feet prints in the snow. Here are some Grackle prints. And some Skunk.
I have Tulips blooming ( in the house). Spring is here after all.
Along with tiny Daffodils.
This cool barn doesn't house animals, but grape farming equipment.
The little female Redpoll is still here.
That's all folks. have a wonderful week-end.

Ruby Tuesday

The sky was blue and the sun shone so brightly today. Despite the fact that the snow and high water continues to stick around, we took a ride, and I spotted this rather plain barn with a red door.
Happy Ruby Tuesday and if you click on over to Mary's site http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com to see lots more RED.

Ruby Tuesday

This poor old barn used to be painted a bright red, and now it's all faded and not loved anymore. This roof just caved in this summer, and I imagine the up coming winter will take it's toll. What stories it must have to tell.

Ruby Tuesday

Because of all the rain we've had and the gloomy days, I haven't been out much to take any pictures. These days have been very depressing to say the least but one must expect it at this time of the year..
These barns on the same farm are on the way to the grocery store, and I hope I haven't posted them before. The quilt pattern is really cool, and not many are seen in our part of New york state.
Happy Ruby Tuesday and if you click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com/ you can see more RED shots.

SNOW, SNOW,AND MORE SNOW!

Yesterday morning it was -19º when we got up! The coldest day yet. We didn't go anyplace, and the same birds showed up for breakfast, lunch, and supper. I decided to post some pictures I took on Friday. We took a drive to the Bay on Lake Erie in hopes of seeing 2 huge ore freighters that were on their way to the harbor to tie up for the winter. Needless to say there is now too much ice on the Lake, and they are stuck out there someplace waiting for an ice breaker coming from Canada to free them.
This first shot is on the way to the Lake of the blowing snow. Down near the Bay we saw all these Canada geese sleeping. As soon as we stopped, they all got up and started walking toward us thinking apparently we were there to feed them.
This is looking across the bay, and you can see it is all frozen. They are already warning ice fishermen to beware of cracked ice as soon as the big ships enter the harbor area.

On the way home, some Sumac with snow caps on their heads.
Another victim of the heavy snows.
This is in our yard. I never saw this nest during the spring. It's in our Spirea bushes.
Wind swept snows.
We came upon this deserted barn just as the wind picked up.
Hope you all are having a wonderful week-end. The temps. should be climbing over night, but more snow coming on Sunday.

Barns

I did take pictures today, but mostly of the snow and ice, and I know we're probably already tired of white, SO here are a few of the barns from my barn file. All these were taken within the past 3 years. Some old and some new. This one has a fairly new paint job.
This poor old barn fell down about 3 weeks after this picture was taken during a heavy snow storm.

An Amish barn near where we shop at the bulk food store. Notice the wash hanging from the house to the barn. I bet it gets dry within minutes.
This one appears to be leaning.
Another Amish barn where they were preparing for an auction. You can see some of the farm equipment out in the field.
I especially liked the grape vine wreath on this barn.
Another one past it's prime.
A new door is in order.
I have lots more, but I'll let you rest for now. Have a wonderful day, and stay warm.

SkyWatch Friday

Good Morning.
Another overcast day here, so no good sky shots. I took this last summer, and I thought it was worth a repeat. A large flock of birds leaving this old abandoned silo.
Thanks to all those involved in this fun site. To see more fantastic sky photos click on http://skyley.blogspot.com/, and have a wonderful day.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Good Morning all. It was a blustery day and we have about 2" of snow. Towns farther to the south got much more. The old Indians call this Squaw winter. When this is finished we'll get Indian summer, and the temperatures could reach the upper 60's. Won't that be nice? The Indians gathered one more raiding party before winter during this time when there was no snow on the ground and their enemies couldn't track them back to their camps.
This was our back yard when it all started.
Driving down the road to look for pumpkins. At this point the snow wasn't sticking.
This is the Bittersweet bush/ shrub where I took the shot that is in my header. I just love Bittersweet for holiday decorations, and we found this growing along side a dirt road out in the "boonies". I might have to go back there and snip some. I do have my own growing, but it doesn't have any berries. Behind this bush was a huge one in the woods, but no way to get to it.
Driving home I spotted a couple of barns. This one apparently has no one to love it.
This one is in better condition, and sits beside a large corn field that has yet to be harvested.
Finally this barn is about 1 mile from us. It is a huge complex, and very modern. They are the ones that use the liquid manure called "slurry", and when it's spread on the fields, the entire countryside smells BAD for days!
