Fungus- Among Us

Our son brought us a trailer load of firewood, and this afternoon we unloaded it all, and I saw some interesting fungus on some of the logs. They don't need any explanation, so enjoy.
Please forgive me for not visiting my favorite blogs. With the baseball season winding down and the Yankees going to the playoffs, we're watching every game with baited breath! LOL

Macro Monday

About 2 days ago I posted some fungus that appeared on the logs that were delivered last week.
For Macro Monday I found one turned over to see the underside.
Happy Macro Monday and thanks to Lisa for this cool meme. Click on http://lisaschaos.com/ to see more close-ups.

Macro Monday

It's Macro Monday again. Where does the time go?
On my walk this afternoon, I spotted this fungus growing on an old stump. I thought they looked like Cashews. LOL

Have a happy Monday.

We had a gorgeous day Monday, and I wandered out to try to take a walk on the one trail that isn't under water. This first shot is at the entrance to the "Llama" trail. I found this fungus growing on a low lying branch.

This is actually part of our pond ( in the foreground), and French Creek in the background. It doesn't look very wide, but is around 30 ft. across at this point. Way down stream about 40 miles we saw on TV last night there are several ice jams. We live roughly 15 miles from the beginning of French Creek, and do get ice jams here too, but nothing is happening yet. You can see a small stream cut in between the pond and the creek that the beavers have made.
The snow on the trail is about 18" deep and hard enough to walk right on top.

We took a ride right at dusk to find the deer, and weren't disappointed. There were lots of them at the corn crib.
This shot isn't very clear, but I loved the expression on the faces, and the difference between the young and the older does.

I tried a flash shot and got a different look.
On the way home that moon was so pretty, and the sun was gone at this point. I waited too long to get a picture of it.

The temperature got up to 54ยบ today, ( Tuesday) and melted so much snow. It was very windy too. On Wednesday we are supposed to have rain later in the day, maybe even a thunder storm and already there is a high wind watch for our area.
Take care everyone.

Yesterday was a really busy day. We tackled a project we do once a year, and one we don't especially like to do. That is taking apart the 2 motors and blowers on the wood stove, cleaning and oiling them. It's a tedious job, and somebody has to do it. I have a cold, the first one I've had in over 2 years, I feel misrable, and I really didn't feel like working, but now it's done. We depend on these motors with their blowers to push the heat up from the cellar where we have the stove, and make sure we service them every year. This includes taking most of the wiring apart ( that's Gary's job ) , taking all the screws out, removing the motors from the blower housing, and air cleaning it all, and then oiling all the little places that need it. THEN it all has to be put back. It's about a 3-4 hour job for the 2 of us. In the meantime our daughter-in-law came over and cleaned out the stack for us. Now we're all ready for the snow that is on it's way for this week-end.
On my creek walk Thursday I came across some pretty neat lichen. And some ordinary looking moss.
These dried little things were cute.
Even some windswept grasses down by the water.
I discovered a very large rose bush that I hadn't seen before. This squiggly gaget was interesting, and get a load of those thorns!
Here are the rose hips from this bush, and there were lots of them. They are over an inch long. I will be looking for the flowers on this one next year.
Here is the kind of fungus I like to paint on. The underside of course, and it's the size of 1/2 a dinner plate.
Another smaller fungus, with those wild cucumbers in the background.
More moss.
These are kind of neat.
But I really like this one. Looks like a miniature forest.
I checked on my Lilacs and they have their buds for next spring.
I also spotted some ever bearing red Raspberries, that the ants were dining on. Must be the birds didn't get them all.
And last but not least some colored leaves on the Forsythia bush. For some reason they are hanging onto their leaves yet.
Have a wonderful week-end.
