TASTE OF WINTER AGAIN

The day began with rain, then snow, then clouds and finally this afternoon the clouds disappeared and the sky was sunny and beautiful, BUT cold ! Right now at 9PM it's clear and 28º. The Peepers in the pond are still peeping, their voices trembling like they are shivering !
Winter hasn't given up yet ! Warmer temps coming later this week. YEA !
Female Northern Flicker. This actually was during a snow event this morning. The snow didn't stick, and this gal was looking for ants.

GLOOMY SATURDAY, COLD AND WET

Hi everyone;
It's been a gloomy day here. Rain on and off most of the time, and right now it's 38º and we have the wood stove going. The house is nice and warm. It just wasn't a good day to take pictures outdoors. Sorry I'm so late getting to this post, but we were watching the Yankee/ Boston Red Sox game. The Yanks lost. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.
This picture is a Rabbit's Foot fern that hangs in my greenhouse. It's happy here, and the "roots" hang on the outside of the pot, are hairy and shaped somewhat like a rabbit's foot.
Have a good rest of the week-end.

This Mallard drake was swimming all alone in Chautauqua Lake( about 45 minutes from our home in SW NY state ). We stopped there to eat lunch by the water in hopes of seeing lots of ducks, but this was the only one. He swam around for about 2 minutes, then hopped up on the bank and took a nap.
It's been a wet gloomy day. Temps in the mid 60's. Right now there are warnings for a thunder storm headed our way.
We came across a field where 6 Turkey Vultures were eating on a dead animal. Of course as soon as we stopped they flew away. They are amazing fliers. So graceful in the air, and so ugly on the ground.

This is a bench that Gary made for us several years ago so we can sit by the edge of the water. It's made from a piece of old sidewalk.

Here's Azrael and Tauqua, the best of friends.
Another great day. Warm and sunny, BUT now at 8pm it has cooled down, and rain is upon us. Then again you know what "they" say about April showers...

Last years seeds from the Sycamore tree. Several of these big trees grow on the bank of the creek behind our house.

A COOLER DAY

This is the ski resort near our home. There still is snow on the slopes, but the skiing is closed for the season.

Amish farmland

A much cooler day. Right now it's 60º at 2PM. Not bad, but very overcast. We have had a trace of rain so far.
This picture of Lake Erie with ice still out in the center.

GLORIOUS SPRING DAY !

I love to photograph clouds. These two were really cool. We live not far from Lake Erie, and the clouds are always something to keep a watch on.

Another neat cloud.

A pretty waterfall. We walked a trail at the Howard Eaton Reservoir, along the PA/NY state line. It's a large body of water with no houses in sight. No motor boats are allowed either, and what a nice quiet walk.

The Pussy Willows are out too. Another good sign of Spring.

This little flower is called Colt's Foot. It is one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, and is found along dirt roads, and railroad tracks.

A really tall Hemlock tree.
It was an absolutely glorious spring day ! Temps in the mid 70's. It's only a tease I know, because beginning tomorrow it's supposed to rain, and then cooler weather will reach us. Oh well, we'll remember today for a while.

MORE SUNSHINE !

Here is a pair of House Finches.
We had more sun today, but the wind was pretty strong out of the East. Much of the winds have been from that direction this winter, and so far this spring. Our wood stove doesn't draft as good as when the winds are from the West. Don't know why...Temp. now is 47º
Tomorrow promises more good weather. I need to clean out one of my flower beds.
This is the male House Finch. We have tons of them everywhere.
