Wild Bird Wednesday

This poor little Mourning dove apparently has come in contact with the Sharp-shinned hawk that has been hanging around. I think that it has been 2 weeks now, and he is still doing OK. Good thing it's winter and cold otherwise the flies would be after this bird.

We took a ride earlier this week, and saw a small flock of Bufflehead ducks. They can swim really fast..

Also found a Cormorant. I only got 2 shots before he flew away.

We had 1 day of sun this week, and now it's yucky again. Slop, snow, rain, and just darn cold to the bone. I will be so glad for Spring!

Barn Charm

I took this barn photo several years ago, and I don't remember where, but I liked the cool little place to park the tractor.

Friday's Fences

Going to the Kinzua Dam last week to see the Bald Eagles ( see my Wild Bird Wednesday ) post, I saw this fence protecting the pedestrians walking along the sidewalks from the falling rocks. That rock cliff is actually across the road, but very high, and loose falling rocks could possibly cross the road, and roll right onto the sidewalk.

Wild Bird Wednesday

It's time for a look at the birds again, and this trip was on my "bucket list". Near the Kinzua dam, Warren County, Pennsylvania, on the Allegheny river about 40 miles from home is where you can see and experience the thrill of a lifetime, mine at least! When the lake above the dam freezes, the Bald Eagles will fish the waters of the spillway, and the river. When we first arrived, I was disappointed to discover the parking lot was covered in black ice, and the walkways surrounding the dam hadn't been shoveled of snow. No place to walk and take any pictures. I did see 2 juvenile eagles soaring near the spillway, but I couldn't get the camera focused quick enough, and they flew away.
We did locate a lower parking lot below the dam next to the river, and thought it would be a good place to eat our lunch. That is when I saw them, beautiful Bald eagles flying across the river, gliding just above the water, and 3 of them landed in a tree opposite our van. I was so excited, I had taken my video camera, and forgot to get it out of the case. Oh well, I am satisfied with the pictures I got. My header is on that day too.. Total count was 9! If we have cold weather continue, we might take another trip. I'll keep you posted.

Barn Charm

It's time for barn pictures again. When I see barns in this condition I feel sad that someone hasn't had either the time or money to keep it repaired. I can only imagine the beautiful animals, and wonderful smells coming from the barn in it's "hay" day.

Weekend Reflections

Taking a ride looking for reflections in the winter on water can be a challenge, but I found some, and when I up-loaded the rest of the shots from this same area, I was surprised to see a beaver, and 4 Mallard ducks in the background.
Happy week-end, and if you want to see more reflections, click on over to http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com

Barn Charm

I'm not sure where this barn is, because I took it last summer, but I did like the unusual shape. Another barn very close to the road too. I didn't remember seeing any activity around either, but someone is apparently taking very good care of it.
