Sunday

These are a few more pictures from the trail we walked on Thursday. The covered bridge crosses a small creek, and there are lots of pretty flowers.
Even the water in this creek is so low.
Someone does a nice job with the landscaping.
The wild grapes are getting some purple color too.
As in previous years, there just haven't been many Butterflies, and after all the hot dry weather we've had, I resorted to enticing them myself with some cantaloupe rind. Here is a Red Spotted Purple butterfly that spent several hours here.
I was even lucky to get a side view.
At the same time a Question Mark Angle-wing butterfly showed up.
Of course there were plenty of these ugly flies too, but you have to admit it does have pretty colors. It reminds me of the movie "Racing Stripes"
A Grey Catbird stopped in the back yard and began scolding Azrael..
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

Middle of the week, another hot one!

This post is a bit long, but I had a really busy day, and didn't take too many pictures. Sooo back to the files and some forgotten images.
I am beginning to see some Monarch butterflies. This one is a male. The creek was high last week-end from the 3.5" of rain we got, and these two immature Wood ducks were feeding along the banks.
This one with a leaf in it's beak probably is a young male. In this shot he saw me, and took off swimming down stream.

Saturday night 20+ miles from here there was a tornado, and this sky appeared after the storm.

The start of the creek trail was under water for two days.

Cute little grasshopper

Back in Ashtabula, Ohio on the Ashtabula river. All along the river front you will find these beautiful hanging baskets.

A look down the long harbor toward Lake Erie at part of the coaling facility they have there. We had been going there to watch all the 100's of loaded coal trains, but with the sinking economy now there are very few. We were quite disappointed.
There is also a Coast Guard station at this harbor.

This Gull waits for someone to come for a closer look.
I guess the temperature will climb to 90 deg. tomorrow. UGH! I will say one thing the sweet corn really loves this weather. Have a good Wednesday.
