A new visitor.

OK, now where did this fellow come from ? This is probably a Herring Gull. We live 20 miles from any lake. Sometimes in the summer during bad weather we see lots of seagulls in the fields around here scavenging up food, but we rarely see any during the winter. This guy ate an entire hot dog bun at one sitting.

Well, looks like we won't be going anyplace soon ! Can you tell the van won't fit in our garage.

I measured 19" of snow on the ground. The sun is out and I can feel the warmth already. This was at 8:00AM.

Weathering the storm

Good Morning; It's just after 6am, and I got up to put more wood in the stove. It's only 6º out, the sky is crystal clear, and the house was cool. I have a nice fire going now and heated up some water in the tea kettle for a nice cup of hot chocolate. I even found a big fat marshmallow to float on top. Gary is still sleeping, but I'm sure he will be up as soon as he smells his coffee. He will have a big job this morning when he has to clean out the driveway. We got a bunch more snow over night although I haven't measured it yet. He will snoblow a path to the bird feeders so I can get out there to give all my feathered friends their breakfast. There was so many starlings, Red Winged Blackbirds, and Cowbirds out there yesterday they ate up everything in just a few hours. This happens every spring during their migration. There are hundreds of them and they are so noisy. In a week or so they will move on, and then my pretty birds will have the feeders all to themselves again.

Snowed In !

This is a Chinese Land Orchid. I've never had one before. It grows in soil, unlike most other orchids that grow in bark chips or attached to a piece of bark itself. Orchids are actually a "parasite" choosing to grow in the wild attached to the tree itself and not requiring any dirt.
The snowfall out here today wasn't as bad as was predicted. We got around 6"7" on top of the 6 1/2" we got yesterday and last night. The folks in Erie got much more and their total snowfall measures upwards of 18"20". We're not really snowed in here, but who wants to venture out anyway. Gary cleaned out the driveway early this morning, and we're good. It will need opened up again tomorrow morning, because as I write this it's snowing very hard.

Welcome Back to Winter !

OK, here it comes. More snow !

This is for Robert and Trevor !

6 1/2" so far and maybe 12" more tomorrow night. Blizzard conditions and everything. Guess we won't be going anyplace, but there is that light at the end of the tunnel. Daylight Savings !

Christmas in March

I took this about 8:00 this morning, and it looks like a lighted Christmas tree. Actually it is branches in front of the tree from our big Norway Maple tree covered in ice.
It warmed up to 41º, and all the ice melted. Now the forecasters are saying we might get another ice storm on Saturday, OR we could get a whole bunch of snow. Won't that be fun !

Peace and Quiet

Canada Geese in the early morning.
See more pics below. I just went crazy with the camera today !

Four and Twenty Blackbirds Baked in a Pie !

These birds are Brown Headed Cowbirds, but I also see a Mourning Dove, and maybe a couple Red Winged Blackbirds. All a great sign that spring is COMING...

You will have to excuse me this morning. I just finally found out how to re size my photos so they don't take up the whole screen.
Read on. There are 3 more pictures..
