Just More Stuff

Another lovely day with beautiful clouds.
This is by far the biggest common Snapping turtle I have ever seen. It was crawling across the road on our way to get groceries this morning. I was so afraid it would get run over, but everyone drove around it, and finally the turtle raised up on it's legs and walked back into the weeds. I read they can live 30-40 years, and I bet this guy is old!
Their bite is so strong it could snap a finger off with no problem. We have caught them in our back yard on occassion and always let them bite onto the blade of a shovel, and then we would transport them to another stream. They wouldn't let go of the shovel till we put them into the water. They can be dangerous and with little kids around, we couldn't take any chances.
These Amish are from a different order than around our home. Their dress is different, and notice the horses hooves are all off the road at one time. That's difficult to capture.
This grasshopper landed on the side of the road while we were out walking the dog.
Lots of different kinds of wild grasses, and they can be pretty covered with dew.
This was the Waning Gibbous orange moon last night around 10PM.

We did manage some sun yesterday afternoon. It was very welcome, and although it didn't offer very much warmth, it sure did uplift the spirit. This strange looking Cardinal stopped by for a snack. I think he is a juvenile, although his feathers look a bit ruffled.
I think this "Snowbird" is taking a quick nap.
During the sun today was a good time to check for ice.
I got this one just as it was dripping. I like the shape too.
I'll take this sky over the white snowy kind any day. We get very few sunny days in the winter. The Meteorologist where I send in my weather reports says we only get 4-5 sunny days during the month of December. Bummer !
Have a wonderful day all.
Total snowfall for this season so far is 36". The near by ski slopes will open this Sunday.

Good morning all. It's 57ยบ here and the skies are cloudy. Yesterday it was misting all most all day, until about 5PM, when the sun came out for a few minutes.
This moon shot was taken around 06:45 last Thursday. The sky yesterday morning.
The male Goldfinches are getting into their winter outfits.
Not nearly as attractive as the summer ones.
They're baaaaaaak ! I was surprised last night when I looked under my feeders. There were 2 of them and such fat critters they are. I don't know if they are part of the gang that was here in the spring or not. The ones tail must be at least 12" long.
This one has a spot on the back of his head. Sorry about the fuzzy pictures. I took them through the window, you know for safety sake. I wasn't afraid to get close to them when they were babies, but can't trust them now!
Well, it's Monday morning, and we'll be back on the car locating search again. I'm going to do some looking on the Internet today and save us the hassle of having to deal with pushy salesmen.

Really busy day!

This is going to be another crazy day, so I don't have many pictures to post. I made one New Years resolution last January, and that was to take at least one picture every day, and I didn't want to mess up.
We went out yesterday hunting for a new car. It's an exhausting journey, and one I don't especially like, BUT it has to be done. We did find a couple we like, and will hit the road again this morning to decide.
This is another orchid blooming right now. It is a hanging one, and has roots out into the air about 12" long. The flowers themselves are 1" across, and this one doesn't have any fragrance. I have another that I will post tomorrow. The sky this morning looks a bit iffy, but at least it's not snowing. Oh my did I say that awful word! Shame on me!
Did I mention after vehicle hunting yesterday I was up till 11:30 last night canning tomatoes. I think I'm done for the year, and they will taste so good this winter.
Have a great day all.
