Weekend Reflections

A small lake about 5 miles from home is always a good place to get reflections, and the water at both ends is usually still. I saw this yesterday, and thought it was perfect for the week-end. Be sure to click to enlarge to get the full effect.

Skywatch Friday

On an evening last week, we managed to get some color in the Western sky, after an all day rain.
Happy Skywatch Friday. I hope everyone has a wonderful week-end.

Shrooms

On a recent drive to get critter feed, I found all these mushrooms growing beneath a large evergreen tree. I just had to stop and take some shots. Some were 6"high.

A few of my "girls" basking in the afternoon sun.
I found this small caterpillar crawling ascoss the road. Don't know what it is.
I hope everyone is having a good week. Finally some sun!

World Bird Wednesday

Over the weekend one morning as I went to the barn to let out my chickens, I noticed way up high in one of the Aspen trees, next to the barn a 2nd year Bald Eagle spying on the chickens. Such a regal bird, and I'm glad to know there was a nest somewhere nearby in the past.
I waited till the eagle left before I let my chickens out, and so far he hasn't returned, at least not that I've seen, but now a new threat. I saw 2 Red Tailed hawks circling above yesterday. All the "girls" raced inside, very nervous.

Ruby Tuesday

The berries on my Holly bushes are the best in years. I keep watching for Cedar Wax wings to devour them, but no luck yet.
Happy Ruby Tuesday. Click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com to see lots more RED.

Macro Monday

It's black Walnut season, and these are almost ready to harvest. The tree is so heavy this year with nuts, that some of the branches have broken.
A closer view shows how rough the outer covering is.
These walnuts will last along time after harvesting, and are just so much fun to crack.Click on over to http://lisaschaos.com to see more close-ups

Another Rainy Day!

We've had 2 of the most miserable days! Rain, drizzle, mist, fog, and more rain!
We happened to see these Amish farmers with a wagon load of corn they were loading into the silo. The tractor you see has a flat belt attached to the power take off, and runs the machine that fills the silo.
During these sloppy days, it's always so nice to see an Orchid blooming in my greenhouse. No fragrance though.
We took a ride this afternoon to Lake Erie. The North winds were very high, and I saw 4 Cormorants swimming in the harbor. This one flew up and landed on a dock, but this was the only shot I got before he flew away, and because of the rain, I had to shoot through the window.
Here is a shot of the high waves.
Water splashing up on the rocks.
The wind was so strong and the Gulls were having difficulty standing in place.
Another day of this wetness Sunday, and then back to summer again.
At 10:20 PM, the temp is 42º, and we have our first wood fire of the season!
AND the Yankees are winning!
