Skywatch Friday
Last week we had a few days of melting, and warmer weather. One evening just at sundown while driving home we observed this awesome color looking West. Something we don't often see in the winter.
Happy Skywatch Friday to everybody, and thanks to all responsible for this meme. Just click on http://skyley.blogspot.com to see lots more skies.

Starlings stop by...
Since we were having a good bit of snow today, and we did get 7" bringing the season total to 123", I spent lots of time watching the birds hoping those little Redpolls would return, but it was not to be. Anyway later in the afternoon two, and only two Starlings arrived on the scene. I was actually glad there weren't more. They are always such characters, and I got a few shots. They do love suet.
Sometimes they sit and stare.

World Bird Wednesday

We have a large Norway maple tree in our front yard and I have smeared peanut butter on the bark, and it's fun to watch the different positions the birds must get into to reach it. There is much fighting going on too as you can see in my header. I have at least 8 Blue Jays, and they are forever arguing.
Beneath this feeder are numerous spooky birds that will take off just because. I think they scare themselves.
On Monday morning a large flock of Redpolls stopped here. I haven't seen any Redpolls here is many, many years. I went out to put more seed on the feeders and they flew away, but they never returned. I only got 2 shots too, and those aren't very good.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day. Thanks to Springman at http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com/ . Click on over to see lots more birds.

Macro Monday
More gloomy days in our region, so I chose to work in the greenhouse a bit where there is at least some color. Some of these flowers have an area in the center that looks like an angel.
This is an Orchid I have blooming now, but it has no scent ;~(
Thanks to Lisa for keeping this fun meme going.

Soggy Saturday
More shots from our ride to Lake Erie a few days ago. Not much wildlife but I did spot some Mallards in this harbor. Of course one of them took off just as I shot this picture.
This group of resting Ringed seagulls included at least one Bonaparte gull. The ice in the harbor has begun to melt, and it provides lots of places for these birds to sleep.
Here is another look at the broken ice pieces. Just a few days ago it was frozen solid.
On the way home at the "corn crib" is just one lonely little doe. She wasn't too afraid, and it was surprising to see here here by herself.

The heavy snows have brought down part of the roof of this old barn.
Back at my feeders, the Carolina wren seems frozen in time having spotted the Cooper's hawk. Seldom do I ever see it this still, so I took advantage and got several shots.

Such a cute face!

We had some record warm temps today, and plenty of melting took place. The creek behind our home is really high, running fast, full of ice chunks. 2 of my 4 trails are under water right now. I wonder how the Beavers are...It has rained fairly hard all day too, and we have several streams of water scooting across the floor in our basement. The sump pump got it's first workout of the year, and hopefully it won't need to be tested again for a while.
