Ruby Tuesday

We got 3.5" of snow Friday and being Veteran's day the kids had no school. A perfect time to build a snowman. Here is our 2 granddaughters, Jalyn on the left, and Becca with the pink pants along with our neighbor friend Natalie attempting to add some color to their snowman with spray bottles filled with diluted food coloring.

Macro Monday

More on my trip yesterday to Lake Erie, and doing some pictures of the  gulls. This is a Ring-billed Gull, and they are always around begging for treats.
In the close-up of the face you can see the ring bill that gives this bird the name. During breeding season the area around the male's eye turns a bright red.

A day with the Sea gulls

Taking a ride back to Lake Erie today, I brought some popcorn for the gulls just to practice in flight shots.
It's amazing that when we first got there, I only saw a couple Ring-billed gulls, but as soon as the first handful of popcorn left my hand, they flew in by the 100"s.
Patiently waiting.
A beautiful day and the snow is almost gone.

Weekend Reflections

This beautiful home is located on Findley Lake near here, and provides some reflections for this week-end. The water level is down and will remain this way till next spring.
Happy Weekend, and click on over to http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com to see more reflections.

Skywatch Friday

This afternoon while waiting for trains, the sky kept constantly changing. There is a cold front moving through, and we might be getting 3"5" of snow tonight and tomorrow. Not ready for this.

Catch Up

Just catching up on a few shots I hadn't posted.
This is Azrael, my fierce mouse/ chipmunk hunter clowning around in the driveway.
Looking up through the willow trees on the creek trail, the sky is so beautiful. I just wish we could see more of it this time of year.
I happened to spot a male Bluebird this morning on this telegraph pole. I would think he should be headed south by now.
The Larch trees are loosing their needles, and it will be next spring before they are green again.
The weather is turning on us after several really nice days, and we might get some snow!

World Bird Wednesday

I hit the jackpot, at least for me that is. We took a ride by a local lake yesterday, and visited this delightful small state park. It is all cleaned up for the winter, and was very empty and really quiet. All of a sudden I spied this Pileated woodpecker, and he was most patient for about 5 minutes while I took a zillion pictures. Of course only a few were any good. A lifer for me too.
Moving along to the opposite side of the lake we came upon about 200 Coots moving through the water. I've never seen so many in one place.
