Winter is here-finally!

We woke up to all this snow this morning. It was expected, but you never know, if the wind should change we might get more or less. There is a total of about 14" on the ground..
Lots and lots of birds here today along with the ever present hawk, and then a Bald Eagle flew through the back yard, but I didn't get my camera ready quick enough!
The Goldfinches are still here, and probably will be as long as there is plenty to eat.
I have a few Pine Siskins, but only 3 or 4. Some years I have 100's.
This was our back yard this morning, and the snow persisted all day. Tonight the temps are supposed to get into the signal digits. Brrrrr

Weekend Reflections

Waiting in line at Mickey-D's the other day, I noticed this flag reflecting in the window of this very old home.

Skywatch Friday

I haven't seen any skies worth photographing this week, so I found this one from last summer on Lake Erie. It was a beautiful day, and plenty of fishermen were enjoying the weather.

Good Bye Nice Weather!

This probably was the last nicest day we'll have for a while, so we took a ride to the beach looking for glass. Of course a few pictures along the way.
A small flock of Bufflehead ducks play around the harbor.
We even saw a pair of Great-black backed Gulls. A new lifer for me.
The rain has arived after a gorgeous day, and snow forcasted for Friday.

World Bird Wednesday

Not much going on in the bird world here this week so far. With the hawks hanging around most of the day, the birds have been pretty skittish. Anyway this Titmouse was photographed last year. They are one of my favorites, and I always keep lots of peanuts in store for them.
A close-up shows the cool pattern of the feathers.
Last summer we had a pair of Yellow-shafted flickers hang around the yard. We have lots of ants, and they were really gorging themselves.

Tuesday

Just a bunch of hodge-podge from this week. These tires at the end of a dock on Chautauqua Lake sporting some ice drippings.
Mourning Doves coming and going all day.
A couple friends wait their turn at the feeder.
Another two, and this particular day had lots of visitors.
Here's the same two after a big lunch and getting ready to leave.
Last but not least, another moon shot. I hope you aren't getting tired of my moon pictures, but this one shows the ring around the moon with ice crystals. Ice crystals are at a very high altitude, and reflect on the moon causing this ring..

Macro Monday

Even though we haven't had all that much snow yet, there have been a few days when the temps dipped well below freezing, and then we get frost on our garage door. I love all the beautiful patterns.
