World Bird Wednesday

As winter approaches Mr. Cooper's hawk is here again. Yesterday he just sat in the tree soaking up the sun, but today he took a Mourning dove by chasing it into my bay window. I ran outside but the only remains were some feathers laying on the grass . I suppose the dove might have escaped, as I saw the hawk high up in a tree with no kill.
Those beady little eyes are hard to mistake.

Continuing on with more winter scenes, and I hope you aren't getting tired of them just yet.
This was early yesterday morning during yet another snow storm. The old sun was desperately trying to shine. Later, this was our back yard. Will it ever stop ! !
Topsy/ Turvy Pine Siskins.

Of course Mr. Cooper was at it again. He left empty clawed

Somehow we just can't get enough deer photos.
I've posted this before, but I just like the grouping of these trees.
It snowed on and off most of the day, and much of it was blown away by the high winds. Hopefully way over to the next state.( Sorry )
Anyhoo, The week-end is bringing us more of the white stuff. Hope you all are staying warm, and those of you that live where it's warm, can we come for a visit? :)

We are in the midst of another winter storm. Total from the past 3 days is 26". sigh According to the weather folks we will be getting more through out the week-end too.
There were so many birds on the feeders yesterday morning, and I had fun taking lots of them in flight. Mostly Pine Siskins, and Goldfinches.
A Pine Siskin in mid flight.
Later in the morning the snow stopped for a while, and we went out for some groceries.
This cemetery has a sidewalk in the front, but you would never know it by all the snow.

Plenty of heavy snow laden trees hanging on wires.

Some of the Amish use heavier power equipment to move snow.
Our front yard.
Passing a large field we saw this big hawk eating on a deer carcass. I'm not sure what hawk it is. It was so far away, and I didn't get a good close up.
Of course, last but not least Mr. Cooper's hawk in my back yard scaring away all the birds. No lunch for this bird.
Oh yes, I might add, the Burpee catalog arrived yesterday. Spring IS out there!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy Happy New year to everyone. The temp. out here is 3ยบ. We have had 108" of snow this season.
I didn't get outside very much yesterday. We awoke to a blizzard around 6AM, and the conditions continued to get worse throughout the morning. We ended up with 6" of new snow. At least things are clean again.
This leaf was braving the cold all by itself. Lots of House Finches showed up to eat, and this one was reaching in really far.
There were 3 pair of Cardinals nearby.

Last but not least Mr Cooper's hawk made an appearance. He was far away at first and I almost missed him. I knew something was awry when all the birds left in a hurry.
Then he moved a little closer, and I can see his one eye looking at me.
Do have a wonderful day. Soon it will be time to get my pork and sauerkraut in the roaster. Yum !

Hodge-Podge

Good Morning everybody. I apologize if I didn't get around to all your blogs yesterday. We had a really busy day planned, and somehow I didn't get around to much computer work. Bill paying, grocery shopping, get gas and diesel, get chicken feed, and bird seed ( can't forget the birds), and trips to 2 Amish bulk food stores, PLUS we treated ourselves out to lunch of course. What a day.
Snowfall now = 19.5" with more lake effect snow on the way.
Now on to the pictures, yesterday morning all the birds suddenly disappeared and I knew why. Here it is, Mr./ Mrs. Cooper's Hawk spying on us from back in among the branches . You can barely see him, but those beady little eyes can certainly see us! On our way to one of the Amish bulk food stores, is this wagon full of sawdust.
We managed to get closer, and I got a couple more shots before they turned into their driveway. There are many Amish sawmills in this area, and would you believe it they have great piles of slab wood that they set on fire and burn it till it's gone. I can't figure out why they don't use it in their own stoves.

I've been trying to get a good picture of a Slate Colored Junco ( Snowbird). They are pretty fast and don't sit still very long.
I'm always looking for flying birds too.
Have a great day all. Take care and stay warm.
