Watery Wednesday

A lone fisherman walks on top of a Lake Erie breakwall on his way back from a day of fishing.
More rain today, and we're all wishing for some of that heat we had this summer. Maybe just a little would be welcome.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Ruby Tuesday

Because of all the rain we've had and the gloomy days, I haven't been out much to take any pictures. These days have been very depressing to say the least but one must expect it at this time of the year..
These barns on the same farm are on the way to the grocery store, and I hope I haven't posted them before. The quilt pattern is really cool, and not many are seen in our part of New york state.
Happy Ruby Tuesday and if you click on http://workofthepoet.blogspot.com/ you can see more RED shots.

Macro Monday

I just love these little wild Asters. It has been a good year for them, and they are growing everywhere. The color is one of my favorites too.
Rain, rain go away. Enough is enough, but it will pester us a few more days yet.

Here, There and Everywhere

With all the heavy fog and dew lately it's a good time to look for spider webs. We took a ride to see the Steel Head Trout run. The stream was full of 100's of these fish. In this shot you can see one of the fish jump the falls. No fishermen on this day though. The waves in the lake were too high and the wind was really strong. This stream is off limits to fisher people as it is a nursery stream.

A small flock of Canada geese came fairly close, and I found one that is a cross between a Canada and a domestic goose.

This is one of the black Squirrels that live in Westfield, New York. There are lots of them and they are fairly large and well fed.

Down by the lake a huge flock of Gulls swarm around a person throwing crackers to them.

It's Concord grape season around here, and you should smell the air! It's heavenly..

The Hydrangea trees are in full bloom. They make such gorgeous dried flowers. I like to take a drive by this cemetery where they are, when they fall off the tree and gather up a few for decorations.

And there are some ever bearing red raspberries ripe. Lots more berries are coming on IF we don't get a killing frost.
It's been a really cold and gloomy today. The temperature this morning was 37 deg. About normal for this time of year I guess. Tomorrow more rain in store. The rain is taking down some of the pretty leaves, and I hope by the time the sun does shine again, there are some of them left to photograph.

Of Butterflies, Birds, and Beach Glass

The Monarch caterpillar I captured several days ago emerged Thursday morning, and this is what the chrysalis looked like. The totally emerged butterfly is in my header. About noon it finally emerged, and when our granddaughters came over later in the afternoon we released him onto some flowers I had still in bloom.
This young male Hairy woodpecker looked like he wanted to check out the Bluebird house.
"The roof looks pretty solid"
"This side is OK too, Must be a new house."
" Humm, somebody has been hiding seeds in here."

"Now this looks like a good place to get a drink."
This little guy showed up on my feeder this morning. My friend Mary thinks it might be a Yellow Rumped Warbler 1st year.

I've had a couple requests to see the beach glass we've been collecting since last fall.
This is a 2 quart Mason jar full of the more common pieces.

I keep my more favorite pieces in here. This a 1 quart candy jar.

On our last search this week.
I also collect pieces of pottery or crockery I find. I located a piece of light yellow beach glass too which is rare. It's on the right just below that green bottle top. My goal is to find a piece of red glass and a marble.
.
We are supposed to have a nice day tomorrow, and I think we might take a drive to Lake Erie to see the Steel head Trout run. Hope to get pictures.
