World Bird Wednesday

Visiting a local Great Blue Heron rookery today, I wasn't disappointed. I thought maybe it was too early in the season, but there was lots of action. It was really windy making holding still pretty difficult. I'll keep an eye on the progress, and post more later.. Click on over to http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com/ to see lots more birds.

Macro Monday

I'm sure you have all seen these little yellow flowers early in the spring. They bloom very early and are usually found in barren places where other flowers might not grow. They are called Coltsfoot, and when I was very young my Dad and I would look every year for them, knowing the real Spring wasn't too far off. A QUIET WEEK

By golly I think Spring is trying after all. I have some beautiful Crocus in my front yard .
We have been checking on a Bald Eagle nest not too far from home, and the nearby creek has flooded the low areas, so that it is a temporary home to many migrating ducks. Only problem is that they are all pretty far away. Here is a shot of two male Ring-necked ducks.
Lots of Buffleheads too.

Of course there are always Wood ducks lurking in the shadows.
Our groundhog friend still makes daily visits to the back yard too.

Have a great rest of the week-end everyone.

Skywatch Friday

After the 3" of wet heavy snow we got yesterday, we were rewarded today with beautiful sunshine, and the promise of 70 deg. temps this week-end. Thanks to all who help keeping this meme going. Click on http://skyley.blogspot.com to see more sky shots.

Just Birds

It is April isn't it? Oh yes, I forgot we here in the East apparently aren't finished with winter just yet. It snowed all day, and dumped 3" of wet heavy snow on us. I had lots of birds stop by, and here are a few of them. Mr. and Mrs. Red-bellied Woodpecker here together. I really hope they stay and raise a family. I'd love to see baby woodpeckers.
This Goldfinch has some crooked toes.

Oops, this is no bird. So far, this guy hasn't left his calling card, but he had dug some big holes in the yard looking for grubs.
