Skywatch Friday

It's time for sky pictures, and we have had so many of these big cumulus clouds lately during all the hot temperatures we've been experiencing. Most of the time they have produced no rain. We did get around 1/3" today, and even though it's mild it is very welcome.
Happy Friday, and click on over to http://skyley.blogspot.com to see lots more sky shots.

Wild Bird Wednesday

Well, it's Wednesday again, and I'm so glad Stewart is continuing this great meme that Springman posted.
I really haven't seen many birds lately. The weather has been horribly ( if you don't like hot, and I don't) hot and dry here. The birds have been staying cool I guess because they haven't been around as much. All except this Mourning dove that is apparently beginning a new nest. We have several Blue Spruce trees on our property and the doves love nesting there.
Join everyone in seeing more birds. Click on over to http://paying-ready-attention-gallery.blogspot.com to see lots more. Thanks Stewart!

Barn Charm

One barn that I am always looking for is the advertising logo of Mail Pouch. These are a favorite of mine and not allot left. This one has been redone , but still is a good looker.
Happy Tuesday, and if you will click on over to http://bluffareadaily.blogspot.com you can see lots more great barns.

Kinzua Viaduct

As promised here are just a few of the pictures I took of the Kinzua Viaduct in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania. You can read the story. It is unbelievable that a tornado could destroy this structure where there was so much air space between the iron pieces.
You can walk out to the remaining viaduct and view the destruction below. Out at the end of the viaduct is a viewing platform. In the floor is embedded a 4 ft. square block of glass 4 inches thick. You can look straight down to the ground below..
Nothing left but twisted metal.
The walk out to the end.
The ground below.

The remains of the tornado is still visible after 9 years.
Have a happy and safe weekend.

Weekend Reflections

For a reflection this week I found this shot back in my archives. It's of my cat Frosty about a year ago looking at her reflection in a bucket of water.
Have a great weekend, and click over to http://weekendreflection.blogspot.com to see lots more cool reflections.

Friday's Fences

It's Friday and time for fences. This split rail fence is along the walking trail we visited in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania where you can view the remains of the Kinzua Viaduct. It at one time was the largest/ longest railroad viaduct in the world. In 2003 an F1 tornado destroyed a good part of the viaduct. Today the state has made a visitor center and restored what was left of this famous viaduct making it now possible to walk out to the end and view all the destruction . The mangled iron pieces that once were part of the viaduct remain in the valley below.  I will be posting lots more pictures on Sunday, so please come back. You won't be disappointed.
Have a great day, and do click on over to http://lifeaccordingtojanandjer.blogspot.com to see lots more fences.

World Bird Wednesday

Here it is Wednesday again and time for more birds. I haven't seen anything of interest lately, so here are a few from earlier this year.
This Cooper's hawk makes sure he comes by my feeders quite frequently during the winter. His favorite meal are the Mourning doves.
I also have a pair of these cute Titmice. They have a nest someplace nearby, but I haven't found it yet.

These two pictures were actually taken last winter.
I also have a pair of House wrens living in my Bluebird house. They made a nest earlier in an old gourd in my front yard, and I'm thinking this is the 2nd brood.
I'm wondering if this moth is a meal for the babies? It seems awfully big for those small mouths..
Happy Wednesday everyone, and click on over to http://pineriverreview.blogspot.com to see lots more birds.
